1701 Soundtrack Collection (La La Land)

Has anyone here bought this?

I understand the scores are the same source as the limited set from 2012.

What are the liner notes like?
My copy arrived last week, but I cannot listen to it yet as I do not have a CD player. When I have copied it on to my iPhone and listened to the tracks on my cars surround sound speaker system over bluetooth (I do not have a stereo), I will let you know. :techman:

My issue number is 1622 like the Savannah, I was hoping for 1701 like the Enterprise, though. :(

And if my finances were a little different, that would be enough.
Yeah same. I woud love to read more info in the music. It's just a shame for peopl who missed the box set that the GMP Crescendo owned scores have to le beft off. Maybe they'll be convinced to release them or allo LLL to do a repressing of those.

I realize the realities of the GNP situation and I have a baseline rule about getting pissy about not being able to spend other people's (GNP's) money (or what they should do with their stuff). But the restoration and completion of Where No Man Has Gone Before is one of the best things in the TOS Box. (The Cage is quite nice too.) So it's a real shame that it won't be part of this project.

The Doomsday Machine has recording issues to begin with but Amok Time is a loss as well. But somehow The Naked Time and Shore Leave fall through the legal cracks. Weird.

GNP Volume 2 (The Doomsday Machine/Amok Time) and Volume 3 (Shore Leave/The Naked Time) are very good presentations. I was 100% satisfied with them in their day. I even like the simulated stereo. If these are what you have, I say you're all set for these four scores.

Volume 1 (The Cage/WNMHGB) is another story. It was way better than nothing, but it's missing the best part of "Monster Illusion" (Rigel VII cue with heartbeat rhythm and eerie soprano melody, re-used for Nona healing Kirk in A Private Little War). And WNMHGB is missing Kirk's climactic fistfight with Mitchell! And incidentally, the track list numbering is messed up due to a typo.

Today we know this one CD was made from Alexander Courage's personal tapes for some reason, and the missing cues were unusable. Courage's dubs were a generation down from the reels LLL would use in 2012, so also the sound of GNP Vol. 1 is not as good as 2 and 3.

All the GNP albums with TOS music, five of them, are still available as iTunes downloads. I have the CDs, but I like to poke around on the "iTunes for Windows" app and see what's out there. The app is free.

Well, that's the catalog/item number for this release of course. But be that as it may, this music merits playing at a good volume if possible. The TOS scores are just so lovely, and this new series is a good way to give more people (well, at least 1701 more people) the opportunity to own this set from back in the day. The liner notes are cool - such info always makes me appreciate the music more. Still, I wish they had just kept these available as downloads (or even in streaming formats). I bought one mp3 album out of the collection when they were available, but only one, and all of a sudden they were gone. Must be a really, really, really niche market.
