So, 24th Century, current to the prime lit timeline. What generation? Well, a bit of a mixture, actually- On points it'd be mostly TNG, but as it headlines Geordi, Scotty, Nog and Guinan, with some other familiar faces and guest stars, it's going under a more general "Star Trek" header.

Could be a bit of a doorstop - it was pitched as a duology and commissioned as one book - but you'll know within a year...

Well, speculating: The title is a play on Clarke's Law ("Any sufficiently advanced technology is. . ."), and the stars include three brilliant engineers and Guinan, who no doubt has experience with technology the Federation may not be aware of.

Also: Yay! Guinan! We don't see nearly enough of her anymore.

I was thinking that during said conversation and had to resist saying so.

Based on a lot of responses to the "what do you want to see next year" in the State Of Treklit thread, I think it'll be to a lot of respondents' liking, if they're looking for standalones that are character-based and not all about doom-and-gloom. This isn't a comedy, and there'll be threat and sadness and stuff, but it's not sort of nu-BSG kind of darkness or anything. Ultimately it's positive.

That's cool. I really love the intermingling of the different series in the post-Nemesis books, so I find it nifty that projects like this one are happening. Good stuff. (And I like that Geordi is a focus character. Dude needs more to do.)

So, for next year, so far we know Kirsten Beyer is doing another Voyager book, Christopher is doing a book based on the Department of Temporal Investigations, and this. That's a pretty solid start.

It was originally pitched as a Geordi story, so he gets top billing...

Why a Geordi story? I never really followed him as a member of the audience, but found I really enjoyed writing for him in On The Spot. There are a couple of other reasons too, but that was the driving one.

Lonemagpie I'm definitely glad to see Geordie will finally be getting a novel where's he is the main character and having Guinan ,Scotty and Nog is a nice mix of characters from the different series and a story about exploration is something I've been looking forward to have in Startrek stories again.

As for having a mix of different characters from the different series, I did think about trying to get a Voyager and Enterprise character in there as well, but it wasn't really practical for the main cast of the story.

Yeah... having Trip not die in 2161 is one thing, but having him still alive in 2382 would be stretching it...

Well, the holodeck program of TATV could still be around...

But if I really wanted to get lynched I'd rather just have Janeway rescued and then kill her again.
