Star Trek: Indistinguishable From Magic in spring 2011

Oh and why does Geordi need to temporarily transfer (It is temporary right)? to the Challenger? What's different there that he can't do on Enterprise.

Maybe it's his first step towards becoming it's Captain. If it happened in a alternative time line, it could probably end up happening eventually in this one.

Most likely, this book will feature Geordi gaining his captainship of 'Challenger'.

The Enterprise crew diverges even more from what it was in TNG - only 3 TNG characters are left.
Is this a good ideea - considering we're talking about tie-in fiction?

From a sales POV? Probably not, though Nemesis laid the groundwork for it.

From this reader's POV? Certainly. Better that than going the Star Wars route of focusing on the should-have-long-since-retired characters from the movies and killing all the tie-in-originated ones. :p

I think it is a great idea if they are going this route.

It is not realistic to have the same crew on the same ship for years and years. If they separate them, then they can have a TNG crossover where they bring together the Enterprise, Titan and Challenger together for a big mission.

Riker: So, you're captain of the Challenger now...

Geordi: Right...

Riker: So, what's the real reason you didn't want to be my executive officer? I think we've ruled out your not being interested in being in charge of a ship.

Geordi: Have you seen the track record of the ships you've been offered in the past? I'm surprised you're still alive.

It could probably work. DS9 doesn't seem to have many of it's original characters these days.

In all fairness, it will have been three and a half years since Geordi turned down the XO spot for Riker. A lot can change in that amount of time. As to whether Geordi will take the center seat or not, we'll just have to wait and see...

In fact, if ZSG is anything to go by we might be on our third batch of characters if the series comes back full time in that time frame.

the galley proofs, have shown up.

For those wondering, it's 481 pages in printed form.

Oddly enough, the title page has reverted to having the movie-era "Star Trek" font/logo like the original cover did, and not the TNG movie-era font and logo like the second copy of the cover. Whether this means it's going back to being labelled as a generational crossover as it originally was, or whether it's still going to be under the TNG label as it was changed to, with the title page being an error to correct, I have no idea.

(Probably neither does Pocket, seeing as the second cover proof had the TNG-movies label and logo on the front and the TOS-movies logo on the spine... I guess there's still some confusion over how to label it)

ETA- it's an error that the editors already noticed, so it's still going out under the TNG label/logo.

I also discovered an amusing typo that I'm tempted to leave in, referencing a "boob-trap"...

Did you get your galleys in digital or hard-copy form? I'm expecting the DTI galleys pretty soon, and since the copyedits were all-digital, I'm wondering if the same will be true here.

Did the second proof have the TNG movies logo, or TNG post-Nemesis novels text? There's a difference. (Namely, one isn't crap. ;))

The latter - and as I just edited my post to update, it's an error on the galleys and *will* be going with the TNG novels text and labelling.

Digital, on account of the hardcopy copyedits vs British postal system farrago convincing them *not* to trust my galleys to a strike-ridden failing system in the middle of a blizzard this time.

Which is better for me anyway as my handwriting sucks, and posting the fucker back was horrifically expensive.
