yeah but soon i'll be adding more shit as you put it on it later :) plus from what i read those were sensor pods

I always thought that stuff they added to the Miranda to make the Soyuz class was the starship equivalent to adding those stick-on fake vents and decals to a car.

As for the ship, it seems rather...uninspired. And "Gadget Hatchwrench Class"? :wtf:

its spelled Gadget Hackwrench ^__^

its named after this character:

http://rescuerangers.wikia.com/wiki/Gadget_Hackwrench

shes the anthro Mouse in case anyones wondering just her tail isnt shown in that pic ^__^

Right, because the difference between Hack and Hatch makes all the difference... Actually, now that I know the ship is named after a cartoon mouse, it's worse.

I know these are all make-believe space ships from hundreds of years into a fictional future but still...that doesn't mean we should be christening our designs after Disney characters.

I'll admit that that was my initial reaction when I saw the name several months ago. However, to play devil's advocate for a moment:

No one would really look very askance at ships named the U.S.S. Prometheus, the U.S.S. Odysseus, the U.S.S. Quixote, or the U.S.S. Sherlock Holmes. Those are all fictional characters, but they are considered classical - the newest being over a century old.

But, that is a temporally-skewed point of view. By the time that kaisernathan1701's ship would start to look contemporary (say around 2270), the character of Gadget Hackwrench will be 281 years old!

I'm not going to argue that she's likely to become a centerpiece of "historical" literature or entertainment in our future - but I don't have to. As far as we know, in Trek's past Gadget Hackwrench became a symbol used by the engineers in one of the militaries fighting for freedom against the oppression of Khan Noonien Singh. Were that so, naming a ship the U.S.S. Gadget Hackwrench would be no more ridiculous than a U.S.S. Rosie the Riveter, or U.S.S. Smokey Bear.

We really have no way of knowing everything or everyone that could end up being considered historically significant by the 23rd Century. We also don't know how many ships are in the entire Starfleet - but heck, assuming as registry numbers indicate that there have about 75,000 starships that have mostly been given distinctive names (since many later ships with the same name as an earlier ship bear the same registry number with a letter added) by the time of Voyager, they may have even slapped U.S.S. Paris Hilton on a hull at some point. (Named, of course, after the President who signed the treaty entering the United States into the United Earth government.)

And none of them are children's cartoon characters. They're all classic literary or mythological figures. Big difference.

You're right, that would be no more ridiculous. But ridiculous nonetheless. None of those would be acceptable names for a starship.

I highly doubt that Starfleet would become so desperate for names that they'd be forced to resort to naming a fine ship of the line after some spoiled airhead harlot from the 21st century, or an anthropomorphic cartoon mouse from a children's show. That was a gallant effort trying to defend the name but there's really no way to justify it. It's just silly.

Yes, well, thank you very much the Ship's Name Planning Division of Starfleet Command. Somehow, I doubt your authority in these matters. :p

You don't actually know this. In our world, she jokingly announced her candidacy for POTUS during the last election. In a world wrought by WWIII and the Eugenics Wars, a much more sincere young woman with the same name and even genetics might have played a much more serious and important role in their history. (Yeah, I doubt it, too, but c'mon, man - free your mind. ;))

Think about it like this: would any of today's Navy's christen a ship with the name of a fictional children's character from 200+ years ago? Why don't we have sailors serving aboard the USS Big Bad Wolf or the USS Snow White?

Pardon me while I go to my drawing board and sketch up a first draft of my Mary Poppins-class service tender.

hehe didnt mean to make people go WTF here its not supposed to be used in the Trek Universe we know ^__^
Its Supposed to be used in a fictional trek universe
and yes im this ships captian i decided to do a redesign cus the old design seemed to fan boyish and not really useful as a Starfleet vessel and thanks for your comments and im sorry Vance/Janz that i had to use your version of the Soyuz class to make this.

kaisernathan1701 - I just noticed that there is a slight problem with the ship's starboard nacelle strut in the forward-on shot. Looks like a fudged fit on a cut-and-paste?

I like the design overall, though. :bolian:

*cough* AKIRA *cough*

The precedent has already been set...

Amen to that :techman:

Who says it was named after the manga?

from Wiki:

Akira (あきら, アキラ?) is a common Japanese given name. There are several Kanji for Akira. One popular Kanji is 明 which means "bright", "intelligent", or "clear". The name Akira is a unisex name.

Perhaps it was named for:
Shizuo Akira, Japanese immunologist

Or maybe:
Akira Machida (顯), the head of the Japanese Supreme Court

This makes the most sense:
Akira Natori (亮), astronomer
