Cowboys Stadium

I am not a Cowboys fan, and I've never liked Jerry Jones, but the new Cowboys Stadium looks amazing.

Here's some info:

A pair of nearly 300 ft (91 m)-tall arches spans the length of the stadium dome, anchored to the ground at each end. The new stadium also includes a retractable roof, glass doors allowing each end zone to be opened, and a center-hung video display board. It is the largest high-definition television screen in the world, and is 160 by 72 feet (49 m × 22 m), or 11,520-square-foot (1,070 m2)

I think Jerry Jones said that screen weighs more than one million pounds, and cost more than Texas Stadium.

Additionally, this new stadium has more than 3 times the internal volume of Texas Stadium.

The one glaring problem would be the height of the scoreboard, which was hit numberous times in pre-game practice today, and at least once in tonight's game (I'm only in the 3rd quater). You would assume that the height of kicks would have been taken into account, but that's hard to believe when it's hit 4 times in a row in practice.

I think this stadium is a monstrosity and the perfect example for everything that's wrong with the commercialisation of sports (for example, I read somewhere that you have to pay $50 or something for a parking space there).

That said, the stadium is incredibly cool. When it was being built there was a computer animated video on the stadium's homepage about the giant doors opening - mindboggingly impressive.

It's an incredible, beautiful stadium, even if it is for the Cowboys. That said, I had to when Aikman and Buck were talking about the possibility of punting into the scoreboard, and then it actually happened! That's more highlights for a backup punter in this preseason than, well, ever.

Also pretty that JJ response to Fisher's suggestion that it really needs to be raised has been "It's not a problem, so "

In this economy I don't know how you can take the time from scraping dog food out of used tins without starving to post. What with this economy and all.

As for the screen, it's ridiculous, it's stupid, and I'm surprised that Jerry Jones' senile ass didn't see the problem coming. Even Al Davis probably could have told you it's a bad idea. The NFL on general principle shouldn't let the Cowboys play there until they fix it, but they won't, so I hope all you Cowboys fans enjoy the do-overs. That's going to be like a 50% increase in sweet punting action.

Well, I'm glad it helped create jobs, but my issue really is the overall cost of it. I mean it was what, 1.6 billion just for the scoreboard alone. That's a ridiculous price for anything.

$50 ain't all that over the top compared to other stadiums. It was $40 to park at Gillette last year. Hence, I take the train to the game!

Really? Don't you feel ripped off when they charge you such outrageous sums for something as mundane as a parking space? Or are NFL games so expensive that 40 dollars more or less don't matter anyway?

Are we supposed to take you seriously?? When was sports ever NOT about commercialism? Ever see baseball stadiums from the 1920s and 30s? They were literally plastered with billboards signs and ads. Commercialism and sports simply go hand in hand, always have, after all they are in the business of pleasing an audience (as well as making money) with entertainment. Stop worrying commercialism and focus on what you do like.

Actually they are going to use the stadium as an all around entertainment facility, and it will probably rake in a huge amount of money for the surrounding area, as well as the usual suspects.

Considering that the cheapest seats in Dallas (in the top level) are $99 (midfield) and $75 (end zone) I'd say NFL games are pretty expensive.

Actually, the standing "Party Passes" on the balconies are only $29. That's not bad at all.
