New Flu Virus SPREADS!

I have always been against the 'flu. IMHO it makes you feel awful, in the worst cases throwing up and the runs. I'm off work for days and there's no fun involved, and usually everyone else in the family gets it.

I just can't see any reason to support it, so my vote is always against. Doesn't seem to do much good though. Fucking democracy my ass.

^I don't blame the Mehican people, but it looks like it did come from there. Now where the virus originated from, one can only guess at this point!

OH MY GOD THE FLU!!!!

NOT THE FLU!!!!

I'LL FEEL LIKE SHIT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND WILL TAKE SO MUCH TYLENOL MY LIVER WILL BRUST OUT OF MY TORSO AND STRANGLE ME!!!

Seriously. It's the fucking flu.

Unless you've got a weak immune system due to other disease or age you're going to just feel like shit for a couple of days and then be OK. I've had the flu before. It sucks. But I somehow survived.

Not all strains of the flu are created equally. 1918, for example.

Still, not much is known about this strain. The cable news networks are always quick to jump on the panic wagon.

It's targeting healthy people age 25 to 44. That's a little different.
Most flu strains attack the elderly, children and weak immune systems. This flu's hitting healthy people in their prime.
That's a badass strain of flu.

That's what makes this strain somewhat worrisome. The strain in the 1918 pandemic caused healthy peoples' immune systems to work against them. So basically, the stronger your immune system, the higher the likelihood of death.

Something like 20 million people died from the flu pandemic in 1918.

It's sad, then, that healthcare has improved any in the last 90 years.
Did you bother to read either one of these posts?

Exactly. This strain, unlike lots of scares in the past, looks dangerous. VERY dangerous. It could be a pandemic waiting to happen.

Your answer would make sense if flu strains had remained static, but they have not. They grow more powerful and resistant to antibiotics, and we fight just to keep up with them.

Just another quick add, we share a lot of traits with pigs. Insulin Isophane, for example, is processed from pigs. Diabetics use this to maintain blood sugar levels. Why does it work? Because human insulin and pig insulin are very similar, and share common traits.

That's the part that worries me, it's a powerfull strain of flu!.

The Flu is a virus, right? Antibiotics work well against bacteria, but are far less effective against virii. The most they really do is mask the symptoms and maybe boost the immune system a bit until the body fights it off on its own.

The flu is viral. Antibiotics won't help at all.

You're both right. My mistake. I got it confused with something else.
