Australian Heatwave

It's currently 31C in Newcastle at the moment, but I remember a few days back in December where it was 40C plus. No fun at all.

Could you put some of that heat in a box and ship it to me in Minnesota? I'll pay postage.

We haven't gotten above 0 C/32 F in a long time.

drench a towel, wring it out so it's not dripping too much and use it as a cape and sit in front of a fan :D

can't say as I know how y'all feel over there on the other side of the world, but the hottest on record for my city was 102F(39C) in July 1936 :)

I looked at some records for the highest temperatures in Australia (and the rest of the world) if anyone is interested

44 here again right now. I left work early and was lucky enough to get a train but there are literally HEAPS of cancellations, it's just ridiculous. The Tennis apparently has woeful patronage because just getting there is like a trek through hell.

I must be nuts but I'm going to the Gym (which has good aircon) to do a yoga class. Hopefully I will survive :)

The temperature here is 26.2C. Make fun of Tassie's miserable weather now, Mainlanders ;)

I'm glad I live in Auckland for a change, the high today is 24C (75F) - forecast to be around the same for the next five days as well - and we're all about ready to die with the heat here . Hope you lot get though this heatwave, we're only barely doing so

I didn't include New Zealand in my maximum temperatures. I will rectify that now

The highest temperature ever recorded in New Zealand was 42.4°C, in Marlborough, Christchurch, and Rangiora (in Canterbury)

The highest temperature ever recorded in Auckland is 34.4C.

I really wish I'd moved to Canada earlier so I could miss this heat but the money I'm earning at the moment makes up for the drop in value of the $AU but I'm so over this heat it's not funny.

The lowest forecast temp for the next 7 days is 38 degrees.

When we had the heatwave in March last year it was a 1 in 100 year event that send a new record. Now looks like that record won't last 12 months.

I'll take our cold over that heat any day. You can always bundle up when it's cold, but temps that high can be dangerous.

The temps you guys are having down there is crazy.

This morning here: about 28, no wind... and a thick fog. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. Warm fog. Utterly strange.

I wasn't offended, in case you were wondering :p

Yeah, Canterbury is notorious for its summer highs, and winter lows, I'm glad I live up here and not down there, Cantabrians just can't seem to win, temperature-wise

The highest temperature ever recorded in Auckland is 34.4C.
Er, I think I'll stick with my 24 degrees, thanks

It seeems that northern Tasmania is suffering higher temperatures than Hobart is. On Flinders Island the temperature reached 41.5C - the highest temperature ever recored in Tasmania. At Fingal the temperature reached 40.6C and in Launceston the temperature reached 37.5C which was their hottest day since WW2. High temperatures should continue Friday and Saturday.

In isn't common for temperatures in Tasmania to be more than 30C for more than two days in a row.

See that's the thing - you get a high preasure system blowing northerlies and they come off the sea. For the rest of it they come of the middle of the country and the bloody desert.

And until the current high preasure system moves away (which won't be soon it's so strong nothing can shift it) we're stuck with stinking hot days.

The only respite is after a few revolting nights the nightime temps will be dropping to the low 20s which means you can get some sleep.

It is already 27C in Hobart and it is not yet 10am. It looks like it will get higher than the predicted 29C.

God Damn I've moving to Tassie on my way to Canada.

Currently 41.6 in Adelaide with Melbourne a degree hotter but they are cooloing down over the weekend to the low 30s into next week. At this point Adelaide won't be dropping below 38 (day temp) for at least another week with 3 of the next 6 days being 40, a 39 and 2 x 38.
