Final Trailer!

Shame, since season one was for the most part, good. Season two had some solid gold moments mixed with a LOT of fecal matter, and this is made by the exact same team as S2 so expecting any better is futile. Twitter is spammed with people saying almost word for word the exact same things about episodes 1-6 again and again. Almost as if they were prepared talking points or something.

The Marvel movies have taught me not to take the initial reviews seriously, even though I do wonder how RMB got to see the episodes as early as he did. I also know that fandom really loves nostalgia and TNG is still quite popular so that might be clouding people's judgement. I hope it's good and I'm glad people are liking it. Still, I rewatched season 1 and actually enjoyed it more the second time and was really excited for Season 2. I was incredibly let down by Season 2, so going into season 3 I have to be a lot more skeptical.

I hope for their sake Nostalgia is a powerful drug. It's been nearly 30 years since TNG ended so that's 30 years of being out of sight out of mind. We'll see what happens.
Ummm.... don't take this the wrong way, but have you looked around lately? Everyone's obsessed with the '80s and '90s. TNG fits the bill. It's actually getting to the point where I've become sick of '80s nostalgia. But that's a whole other topic. Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, a new Top Gun movie, the list goes on.

Like I said, Nostalgia is a powerful drug. People feel like back then is a lot better than today and I can't say I blame them.

Definitely got the "it's a 10 hour movie" feel to it.

Admittedly I did snicker a little at Daniel Davis (Moriarty) who is aged 77 yelling about "tired old warriors" as the second oldest actor on set after Stewart himself at 82, Mcfadden and Spiner at 73, Frakes and Dorn at 70, Sirtis at 67 and Burton at a sprightly 65.

Which is what makes yet another action-heavy looking season rather bleh. Like, I can't help but feel had Matalas been given the show right from the get-go we'd have gotten a more grounded show. Unlike some (supposed) quarters I don't want nor need a "Season 8" what I STILL would like is what was packaged and sold, my deep character study show which could've been a LOT cheaper for Paramount to shoot as it would've been a series of Bottle Ship Episodes on the Picard Estate.

Reviews are raving from the same people who also said the same about the second season. However, the second season TV previews pulled the old bait and switch and played the first three episodes in which the writing is fairly tight and we're intrigued by a timetravel plot, a Borg Queen and an Earth that's gone full Purge the Xenos, Burn the Heretic.

Apparently Matalas has basically bulldozed Paramount into giving the reviewers the majority of the series (6 episodes, not 3), suggesting the last four episodes may be a "pure" bloc four-part-ending, and likely where our final shock death is going to be buried.

FC still had a spark (and LIGHT!) to it.
Yeah, light when they were down on Earth! Onboard the Enterprise-E was a different story.

Generations also had the dark lighting, especially on the bridge.

I get it. You don't like PIC. Fine. But I'm just saying, don't make it sound like the TNG Movies were something they weren't.

I'm not, Generations isn't highly regarded either and all of the lights in the -D going out at the same time is a common criticism.

FC worked because it was a good story and just an overall tone. It worked in spite of the dark lighting.

Generations and NEM didn't. (Ins didn't either FWIW, though I think it's the movie that most captured the "spirit" of the series. It's often called an "okay two-part episode" Which is hardly a negative criticism for TNG.)

This, this just looks terrible. To me. What about this looks appealing to you (general?)

And not just the darkness nothing about it looks like something I want to see or the characters I love and miss and have really missed since AGT.

Good as FC is it's still different from what pulled me into the franchise.

Looks alright but why is it so dark and gloomy? Can’t they afford lighting in the 25th century?

I think you want some long, detailed answer where I give deep insights that you find interesting and insightful even if you don't agree with it... and I'd be happy to do that...

Except:
1. I just saw the trailer not too long ago and still have the capacity to actually enjoy things, so I haven't gone into deep analytical mode yet. I'm still taking it in.

2. It's 4:18 in the morning. I haven't been to bed yet. I should've gone to sleep a long time ago and am tired. Thank God I have the day off "tomorrow".

So, I'd be happy to go into long essay mode, just not right now. :p

Seriously, give it time, and I'll post something. I always do. In the meantime, good night. Now I have to try to get myself away from this computer...

Okay so I've seen it. It looks like Star Trek Nemesis II, but with even older cast members.
Some of the cast look better. Dorn in particular and Spiner because he doesn't need that Android make up.

It's such a course change from season one that might as well not have happened.
I think it would have been better if season 1 had not happened.....

and this is made by the exact same team as S2 so expecting any better is futile.
I believe Terry Matalas was only around for the first episode of season 2 which I considered to be the best episode of that season.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm expecting a lot of cringe, fanwank and pewpew.
I'm hoping they land it. I'm hoping they don't try to play it too much like a TOS thing and lean into the strengths of what worked for the TNG cast.

The episode configuration is supposed to be more like 4-4-2. Apparently not all the TNG cast members even appear until episode 5.

Strangely enough, many portions of the first episode of season 2 was the last to be shot, thanks to needing to build the Stargazer/Titan sets. That is also the only episode where Terry has writing credit on the final draft script.
