Canadian 2021 Federal Election

The way the numbers are trending, that may no longer be the case.

if the election were held to day going by the numbers in The Star, o'toole would be P.M.

trudeau should have held off and he could have held of, whats happening to his party numbers is self inflicted (not that the stupid comments from monsef helped either - if by some miracle the liberals hold office I hope she's on the back bench - she's been a complete failure as a minister).

That said the hecking at the events is probably unparalleled in Canadian electoral history and the allegations are right out the hard right play book with claims that he's involved in smuggling children for sexual purposes (not forgetting the one tory candidate/MP claimed in zoom meeting with conservative uni students that the liberals would use covid as an excuse to legalise child sex and has been getting down with the nasty but o'toole is turning a blind eye there).

It feels more and more like the non-CBC news services have scripts to follow here. Certainly it's true of Postmedia given their allegiances in 2015.

post media is just plain shrill with it's articles from the national post but what do expect from a chain that has conrad black writing pieces for them.

thought the toronto star hasn't exactly covered it's self in glory.

As ever, my conscience will urge me to vote Green, while my pragmatic side will urge me to vote Liberal just to have the best shot of keeping Conservatives out of power. Time will tell which way I go this year.

Who do you think has the best chance? The NDP always seems to be the underdog, and personally I can't see myself voting Conservative.

I can't see myself voting Conservative either (like, ever), but as far as who has the best chance... most recent polls have been showing the Liberals and Conservatives in a statistical tie. Up until recently, the predictions were that the Liberals would still come away with more seats, but as @Marc pointed out above, the most recent poll published by the Star actually predicted the Conservatives winning the most seats.

As for my riding... it has gone NDP federally since 2006, and I don't have much reason to suspect that this year's outcome will be any different.

The Greens don't even appear to be running a candidate in my riding this time around.

I'd vote green, but the thing is, our local green candidate has basically admitted recently that he wouldn't win. He knows he won't because both the NDP and the Liberals have more of a hold. At this point, the Green party is almost like the Bloc, in that it most likely never will win, but would still like to advance its ideologies.

Yeah, the problem I see with the Conservatives is that I've never felt their policies aligned much with what's happening in the North, so like you, I'll never likely vote for them. And historically, our riding has flipped back and forth between the Liberals and the NDP, so it could go either way, and it's almost always been a vote to keep the Conservatives away.

Well, since Annamie Paul endorsed the Liberal climate plan yesterday, it seems you can now vote Liberal with a clean conscience! ;)

the only party dumber this election than the liberals is the greens.

Yeah, like throwing your vote away at this point.

I'm correcting what I said earlier about my riding being NDP. While we are NDP at the provincial level, at the Federal level we're actually Liberal.

for all the noise the tories made over freeland's tweet where o'toole's comments on healthcare were editted they've pretty much resorted to the same thing.

And ad was run last night during the tennis where linking the liberal govt's pandemic borrowings to prices going up (which is very borderline for misleading as there's a lot to inflationary pressures) but ends with trudeau saying he doesn't think about monetary policy with no context to the quote.

Iirc the full comment was about not thinking about it while concentrating on keeping things going during the pandemic.

Going to try mail-in voting for the first time. Interested to see how smoothly it goes.

I submitted my request on August 31, it was approved on September 1, and I received my voting kit today, September 8. So altogether, a week and a day from the time I first submitted the request (and there was a holiday in that range, too.) So far so good!

Ironically, my voter card for my polling station also arrived today... which I now can no longer use!

Anyone planning to watch the English language debate tonight? I am intending to tune in after Lower Decks is over. I figure the whole thing will probably be available online afterwards, so I can always catch up on the first half-hour later if I feel the need.

sorry I'd sooner poke my eyes out.

trudeau screwed up going early, o'foole and sighn are hypocrites given that 12 months ago they were more than happy to bring down the government with motions of no confidence.

I say we deep six the whole lot of them and start again.

really wish the liberal candidate has pissed off to the east coast to be with their other half so we'd get a half decent candidate.

Would love to see the liberals win just to shut the screeching harpies at the national post up.

Watching the debate! Sooo much chaos. Going to eeny, meeny, miny, moe my vote.

voted today.

stuck with our idiot of a liberal candidate.

1) I don't think the tories would do any better at the finacial matters than the liberals and the anaylsis of their costing shows this and I don't subscribe the to theory conservative are better economic managers (the Australian government's finances are worse the the Canadians and the conservatives have been running the show there since 2013).
2) there have been issues but the liberals have done an okay job with managing the pandemic and I have one word to say about the tory amangement - Alberta.
3) still pissed a boy blunder for calling the election (and his habbit of scrapes with the ethics commissioner) but the tories and the ndp were prepared to bring down the govt 12 months ago when things were really hitting the fan.

I DVR'd it.

We've already had two from the same campaign office knock on our door in the span of few days. Had to tell them someone had already came by. Kind of puzzles me that they wouldn't be communicating to eliminate overlap. Seems rather inefficient use of their time.

even with experience campaign managers they can still screw up.

our local tory campaign used from thing from another tory candidate but they didn't even proof read it before posting it to social media so it had another riding's name front and foremost so had to come down very quickly.

the campaign manage is a for pc candidate (twice).

So this is rich. This is a partial excerpt of a quote from Erin O'Toole who was commenting on the allegations raised in the excerpt published from JWR's new book:

Erin O'Toole said:
It’s a reminder that Mr. Trudeau will say and do anything to win...

(source)

Not saying he's wrong, but talk about the pot and kettle. This is the person who painted himself as a "true blue Conservative" in order to beat the more progressive MacKay in the leadership contest, and then as soon as he won... he suddenly wasn't one anymore.

This is what worries me about all the centrist and progressive voters who are tired of Trudeau and look at O'Toole and think that he seems in line with their values. How do they know he will continue to express those values if he manages to pull off a win?

https://nationalpost.com/news/polit...ay-be-a-matter-of-expediency-in-this-election

Not to mention... if Trudeau suddenly had to leave office for whatever reason, you can be reasonably sure that whoever his successor was would continue on generally the same path and reflect generally the same values. Say O'Toole does hold the values he currently claims to... if he manages to win, and then ends up having to leave office for whatever reason, can you honestly say that his successor in the CPC would feel, and govern, the same way?
