Your annual vacation/holidays

And now that I've booked all my flights for this summer (except for my Oktoberfest trip which my travel agent is handling), I get to return to my paranoid habits of checking my flight reservations every day to make sure United isn't fucking around with my itineraries.

My own little cross to bear.

Went to NYC for the first time, saw lots of tourist things: The crysler building, the Empire state building, that famous wax people building, central park and the grand central station. But also the forbidden planet, I brought some nerd stuff.

How about One World Trade Center?

It's a much better experience than the Empire State Building. The view is WAY better, and you don't have to stand in as many lines. Also it's easier to get to - there's a huge subway terminal (whicih rather resembles a fish skeleton  ) right across the street.

A couple of months ago I became a Liverpool FC fan. So now I'm planning a trip to Anfield to see them.

I just hope I can score a ticket!

my mom didn't want to go, she found the place too depressing

It doesn't feel that way, it is a great view. Though I liked the empire state building more, probably just it being more iconic and we watched an affair to remember on the flight over too ha.

My sister and I are leaving in a few days to visit Portugal and Spain over the next few weeks. It'll be a series of whirlwind tours of four major cities: Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona, and Madrid. This is my first European trip, so I'm really excited!

One WTC, and the general area around it, does not strike me as depressing. It's actually very beautiful, especially at the enormous waterfall/pools where the towers used to be. And One WTC itself is very nice.

Now, the 9/11 Memorial (which is also down there)? THAT can be depressing. You know how you're supposed to be quiet in a museum but a lot of people aren't? Well, in that place, it's definitely quiet. Nobody says a fucking WORD.

I spent last week in San Francisco, a city I happen to love dearly.

Spent a lot of time with my sister and her family. Unfortunately, the Dodgers won the game that I took my nephews to. But we still had a good time.

My hotel (the JW Marriott near Union Square) even gave me two free Cable Car tickets AND comped me $30 a day at the bar. Given that even one gin and tonic at that bar costs like twenty bucks, this was a big help.

I have been loving Chicago this week.

Alas, now it’s time to go home. :(

I’ll say one thing…as much deep dish pizza as I ate this week, I think I lost all the weight I gained, because it has been so damned HOT! :scream:

My Germany trip is coming up! I leave a week from Friday!

Not going to get any tour packages like my dad and I did last time. I'm just gonna hang around Berlin and Munich and chill (And go to the Oktoberfest, of course. ;) ). I do plan on going to the BMW museum in Munich tho.

DEFINITELY not going back to Dachau. Once is enough. I'm getting chills just thinking about it right now. :(

Well, I'm home from my Germany vacation.

I had an AWESOME time, in the land of my ancestors. I can honestly say that there is no more wonderful an experience than to be in a beer hall surrounded by tipsy singing Germans.

That said, as far as going through security at Munich airport...I wouldn't wish that on my own worst enemy, assuming I have one. I think it must be easier to attend a Taylor Swift concert than to go through security (and, earlier in the week, customs) at MUC.

Oh well. I made it home all right, and I thank God I made my connecting flight from Chicago to Omaha. :)

After much soul searching I have decided to put my London trip (which I was planning for next summer) on hold for the time being. :(

This was not a decision I made lightly. I mean, I had a GREAT time in Germany, but there were also times I was majorly stressing out. And that's not healthy. A vacation like this should be EASING stress, not making it worse!

Plus it probably would have been almost impossible for me to score a Liverpool FC ticket. But I'll deal with thatt later. Make no mistake, I will visit London one day....just not any time soon. :(

I'll say one thing, if British airports ever get US border preclearance, like Canada has. I'll be there in a heartbeat. :techman:

My family and I usually take a trip to Maui annually during mid-March. By then the cumulative lack of sunlight is really taking its toll on me and my mood and sleep is at its worst. Expensive island, but well worth the resetting effect it has on my psyche.

Thanksgiving and the week after have become annual trips for me. This year I'm starting at South Shore Tahoe and then spending Thanksgiving with my parents in Reno. Then I'm taking care of my mom the week after while my Dad and brother are traveling.

Loads booked for us. 2 holidays in England in December including over Christmas.

A few lodge breaks and a cottage break early in year.

Maldives for our 30th Anniversary and my wife's 50th birthday.

Greece for a family wedding later in year

I'm taking my annual 2 week trip to Reno for Thanksgiving and the week after. It's really seeing the parents and rest of family.
