Your annual vacation/holidays

I went through four time zones on my last trip.

Fortunately I remember the tip I got from Die Hard:, on how to beat jet lag: Take off your shoes and socks, walk around on the hotel room carpet and make fists with your toes.

Seriously. That actually works. Try it sometime!

I spent 2 and a half week with my father going to New York and Yellowstone National Park. It was a very good trip. The last day of July I take my annual trip to the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas.

Planning to go to the Gathering of the Clans in the North Carolina mountains with my sister because MEN IN KILTS!! She's praying for windy weather.

Germany has dropped its covid restrictions at the border so FINALLY I can come back (next year) for the Oktoberfest! W00t!

I'm going to Las Vegas tomorrow for Star Trek Las Vegas this week. That's basically become my annual trip.

I've been to Vegas once (my dad took me there for my 21st birthday). I had a good time, but I am definitely not a gambler. I think I played the slots once or twice and that was it. But all that glitz and neon is great to look at. And of course the shows.

I wouldn't go back there to see Vegas itself, but of course I will return when (not if, WHEN) the Oakland Athletics move there. It'll be interesting to see what kind of ballpark they'll build.

I find Vegas one of the most overrated cities in America. You see it once, and you don't really need to see it again unless you enjoy the nightlife or want to see shows or big events. I would like to see a Golden Knights game there though. I've walked around T-Mobile a few times but never got to go inside.

I would like to go to more National Parks. I went to Yellowstone in May and really enjoyed it. Wouldn't mind going to the eastern part of Yellowstone and Zion.

Another reason I'm not exactly 100% in love with Vegas is the weather. I hate the weather down there. The new A's ballpark is gonna need a retractable roof (which will probably never actually open  ) AND one mother of an A/C system...

I am looking forward to seeing that new ballpark, whatever form it takes. The Raiders went from the worst stadium in the NFL to one of the best, I'm sure the A's will do the same.

Enjoy the con! But mind what you do in Vegas... the city is watching... :shifty:

They finished it? It was still under construction when I was there last year.
I’m also going to STLV. Mainly to meet Scott Grimes as I’m a big Legman fan.

Heading to New York City a week from today.

I totally cannot wait to see the new LIRR terminal at Grand Central. It looks awesome. And I'll even get to use it (when I go to visit Randi )!

That's one of the creepiest things I've seen from that city in a long time.

It'll make pilots totally lose their shit.

1 week with my parents to do some repairs and heavy garden work. Also, to celebrate a bit as it was their diamond wedding jubilee.
Now 1 week doing repairs to my apartment, tidy up, finally do the jigsaw puzzles I got for birthday 3 months ago and harvest delicious Kohlrabi. On Thursday I'm invited to the Senior Citizen Club's summer feast with BBQ and tombola. I got lot #1 - a good omen if ever there was one =)
For next year I'm planning a trip to the UK to celebrate my 60est birthday. Propably 2 weeks in a historical fisher hut on Lundy island. No electricity, no cell phones, a protected biosphere and a local marine biologist: the perfect habitat for a limnologist & botanist on vacation :D

I just found out that the ETIAS (the visa-that's-not-really-a-visa which residents of certain visa-exempt countries, like the US, would need in order to travel to Europe) won't become operational until 2025 at the earliest, so I won't need it for my trip to the Oktoberfest next year.

Went to NYC for the first time, saw lots of tourist things: The crysler building, the Empire state building, that famous wax people building, central park and the grand central station. But also the forbidden planet, I brought some nerd stuff.

I've been to Japan and Portugal this year. Though I have to say the (short) Portugal trip was a gift from my sister which I probably wouldn't have done otherwise. (Grateful for the gift though.)

Usually, I go on holiday about once per three years. I don't feel much of a desire to go more often than that. But when I do go, it's often far away.
