The fact that Reliance Big Entertainment has acquired the film rights to this property isn't that big a deal. Studios gobble up stuff from comics and novels and may never use them. The interesting tidbit here is who they want to direct the film as of now...Brett Ratner.
They essentially see an X-Men clone(which it largely is) and since Ratner did X:3 it seems a fit.
Then the following statement by Ratner.
I guess by great he is limiting himself to what, V for Vendetta and Watchmen? How and to what extent is he limiting "great"?
Especially since he seems to imply that Youngblood is one of the "great" ones and that after Yongblood not much else is really left.
I've no doubt replies will list the greater options left and that are more worthy than Youngblood.

"Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and 'Youngblood' is one of the few comic books left with tentpole potential," Ratner told the trade. "It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted ('Youngblood'), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they're able to move."
