Why Riker why

just_me

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
In the First Contact when Enterprise reached Earth and saved the survivors of Defiant, Worf came to bridge and our William started to make some joke. He asked Worf "do you renember how to use phaser " or "little tough ship" by referring to Defiant. Come on Riker was it really good time for that? Fleet just engaged the Borg and situation was not good but you were still enjoying. I like you generally but you shouldn't have done it. You were really thoughtless jerk at that time.

It's a funny little character moment that doesn't ruin the mood. I'm cool with it.

I think im only one who thinks this way
I get where you're coming from, but these are two officers who are very much familiar with each other, so a little tension relief didn't seem inappropriate to me at all.

Riker's always been jaunty. His joviality is part of the package and helps to make Riker very relatable and likeable, as well.

My 57 year-old eyeballs thought they saw some sort of alien creature descending upon Intrepid Young Will Riker's face!

Now, if you could concoct (no pun intended, coming up) one of those furry sinking thingies for his netherregions, you'd REally have something! :guffaw:

I get just_me's stance. Ships and lives were lost and a Borg sphere was hurdling toward Earth. Perhaps that wasn't the best time to point out if Worf still 'knew how to use the phasers' but it wasn't like that wasn't Startrekky. TOS had multiple 'laugh at the end' episodes regardless whichever red shirt was lost, TNG did it a few times too (Picard's "almost human" after Wolf 359), and though Voyager had good reasoning to keep people's spirits up, I'd say they did it the most.

Besides, everyone copes with loss differently. Riker's quick joke may have been what he (and maybe others) need to not loose it after surviving a Borg cube assault.

The original script called for Worf to have a witty reply to Riker's "Do you remember how to fire weapons?" remark, but in the finished movie they decided to simply have Worf react with a silent scowl.

The scowl is far more fitting with the character.
