Why is Trip always in his underwear?

I'm midway or so through the second season, and I was joking with a friend about Trip always in his underwear, and it keeps coming! What's going on? Is this a running joke with the series? Does it continue? It was funny at first, but now ...

All of those things were nice but ENT.. ENT is ALL about the blue undies

arent there any others? well I consider both Saaviks and Valeris as TOS. After them, every Vulcan seemed like he/she was angry-and-pretending-to-be-trying-hard-not-to-show (which is unsexy) rather than intense and continent (like TOS vulcans up to Saavik).

Too many cheap actors for background characters and tv directors (in TNG and the other series), I guess.

Because after decades of female characters in skimpy or skin-tight clothing the PTB finally gave us a hot guy in very little clothing. It's one of the few things ENT did properly.
