Who Would You Like to Have Seen More of?

I would have liked to have seen more Ro. I liked her because he was so different to the standard TNG characters, and I really liked the spark she had with Riker.

:techman: Agreed! That would have been a fun pair to see more of!

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Whoa Nellie:
Yes, you did answer my question, Thank You.

1st Post
What reason could be given for writing her in more permanently though?
It's called drama.

“The essence of plot structure is: struggle—therefore, conflict—therefore, climax. A struggle implies two opposing forces in conflict, and it implies a climax. The climax is the central point of the story, where the conflict is resolved.” Ayn Rand

What reason could be given for writing her in more permanently though? She wouldn't be satisfied as a mere wife or mistress (well, not for long), she couldn't be crew, or civvy (as Keiko O'Brien) - she'd only come to a sticky end and Picard has to be forced off the ship at phaser-point in order to take a holiday so a repeat of her intro episode is out of the question for a steamy rendez-vous.

After over a decade of writing fanfiction with the Picard/Vash pairing, I can tell you that Vash's character fits in easily with the crew as a civilian scientist. I have two TNG storylines; the Double Entendre Universe which accept all TNG canon through the movie "Generations" while adding Vash onboard as the ship's chief archaeologist and the Reasons of the Heart Universe which accept all TNG canon through the movie "Insurrection" while adding Vash onboard as the ship's chief archaeologist. I write her as, to paraphrase a line slightly, a Doctor of Archaeology, expert on the Gamma Quadrant, obtainer of rare antiquities. The characterizations and relationship dynamics established in TNG canon for the Picard/Vash pairing work so flawlessly and flow so easily that it is a pure joy to write this pairing.

I always wondered how the Vash character might have been utilized more in the show, with my P/V fanfic simply being my own speculation.

You just came across a little insulted that I dared to question the legitimacy of Picard and Vashs unused legacy as the new Romeo and Juliet.

Not everyone is going to see the pairing as an obvious and proper destiny.

 No, not at all. As I said I've been writing Picard/Vash fanfic in a Picard/Crusher fanfic world for over a decade. I'm aware that I'm in a very small minority when it comes to that and I've become pretty flame retardant.

My first post was simply my own opinion about what I would have liked to have seen as asked by the OP.

You replied to my first post basically asking me to justify it.

Unless he just arbitrarily decided their relationship might be 'inappropriate' given that she had a naughty thieving streak.

I justified it, with a healthy dose of canon just for good measure.

Now, I have writing on my next story to do. :)

Tomalak - The greatest villian in TNG. He also should have popped up at least once a season.

Yes. I've always thought this. TNG missed an opportunity by not giving JLP a smart rival, and Tomalak would have been perfect. Even if it was just once a season. Every time "Romulan-Denise Crosy" appeared, it should have been the Tomalak character instead.

also...

Commander Shelby
- how they never worked this character back into a storyline I don't know.

Sonya Gomez -
a crew member only used a couple times

Kurn - would have liked to seen at least one more Klingon espisode centered around Worf and his little brother

:techman: I love the idea of Tomalak as a Romulan rival for Picard. Andreas Katsulas was a brilliant actor and I thoroughly enjoyed his character of G'Kar on Babylon 5.

(I've got to stop playing on this board and get some writing done.)

taurik. i loved him on lower decks, he was such a snarky bastard. though i guess he was pretty much the same character on voyager (vorik), still, he wasn't as snarky. from the same tng episode lower decks, the sassy black bartender that showed up for one episode as a civilian that could chill with both the junior and senior officers and then magically disappeared. that is a pretty sweet flat top.

Yay! And I'm looking forward to reading it. :techman:

:) Thank you! This one is real plot heavy so it will take awhile. Sorry I didn't reply sooner but RL has been hectic. The kids are home on spring break and my new dishwasher was installed this week. Yea!!!

Love your new sig!

Aside from the aforementioned Tomalak, Shelby, and Sonya Gomez, I would have liked to have seen more of Doctor Selar. Hell, I would have liked her to have been the chief medical officer rather than Pulaski in season two--it would have been interesting to see what kind of bedside manner Vulcan doctors have towards non-Vulcans, IMO...

Picard/Vash fanfic in a Picard/Crusher fanfic world
I hate Picard/Crusher fanfic...not sure why, but I've never found that pairing interesting. Picard/Vash on the other hand, sounds very interesting. I would have liked to see more of Vash.
Picard seems to have missed out on a lot of potential character foils...Tomalak, Vash, Madred...
I would have liked to see more of Gul Madred, too. He was the kind of evil that was almost enjoyable to watch, yet still filled me with loathing. And he came very close to 'breaking' Picard.
I like Tomalak for the same reasons I like Dukat, very politely convinced of his intellectual and cultural superiority and actually quite civil until his enemy crossed the line. At least that's the feeling I get from Tomalak.
I also enjoyed Ro and Lore and I wish they were used more. And O'Brien became one of my favorite characters on DS9, it would have been great to see more of him on TNG.

Sam LaVelle and Vorik, esp. playing off one another. And the lovely Sonia Gomez, of course.

As for villains, would've loved to see more Nausicaans. They were mean, nasty bastards!

Ditto more Tomalak.

Barclay, he is easily one of my all time favorite Trek characters. There was so much they could have done with him.

I wanted to see more Tellerites, Andorians, duty skirts/go-go boots, etc...

(Plainly, more TOS elements).

Captain jellico. He was so much different than other captains and it would have been interesting to see him interact in other situations on a more regular basis. Perhaps him and Picard crossing paths or having to work together on some sort of fleet mission. I am curious how he would've dealt with the Romulans and some of the issues with the Klingons.

Joel_Kirk, you are one smart man. :techman: I would have loved to see more Andorians and Tellarites on ANY Trek series, not just TNG.

I personally can't understand why they never appeared on DS9. It was a show that spent a lot of time dealing with power politics in the Trek universe. Yet, two of the four founding members of the UFP never appear? :wtf: Would it have killed them to have the Federation President be a Tellarite instead of a new alien (whose race never appears again)?

As for ENT, the amount of Andorian screentime was a good start, but a lot more was needed. All the Tellarite screentime did was wet my appetite for that race.

Hmm...now I'm picturing Andorians and Tellarites wearing skirts and go-go boots...

I love Andorians, I would love to see more in TNG or the other series. Tellarites too.
