Who played baby Kirk?

Does anybody know the name of the child actor who played baby Kirk? I find it odd that we know who played baby Spock in the deleted scene (Jenna Vaughn), but not the name of Kirk's little actor, who actually made it into the finished film.

Memory Alpha says "unknown performer."

He must not have been a member of the Screen Actors Guild.

it could have been an animatronic "doll"; often used in lieu of actual babies in film.

I think they CGI a actual baby face onto a animtronic body, not sure why.

Be good piece of Trek trivia to know the name, then we could follow the little guy for the rest of his life.

It was an animatronic doll with CG, as was Spock in the deleted scene. I recall seeing a photo with them in it.

Could be because the parents of the little girl who played Spock made it known themselves (were OK about it) that it was her (I remember an interview with the mom)

Baby Spock was SO cute.

I know that for babies they usually 'cast' twins or more than a baby anyway because there are rules and laws that prevent them from using the same baby for too many takes of a scene that the adults are requested to do instead. That's why, I guess, they aren't always credited.

Yeah, I guess if it's just a one-off rather than a planned film and TV career for their little one, maybe they don't want the name known. This is the kind of thing we might find out later if the actor's career goes anywhere, or the actor grows up and wants to brag about it. "Hey, I played Kirk in Star Trek once..."

Hi, a friend of mine found this post in a google search and sent it to me... my daughter, Joy Dever was the tiny human who played Kirk. ☺️ She’s now nearly 12 and got to meet a few fans at the Long Beach Comic Con yesterday.

This may be one reason why parents would not want their baby credited for a brief role in a Star Trek movie.

Funny you should mention this... her older three sisters (14 & 16 yo) have all made worked as babies and toddlers on several shows with devoted fan bases and yes, they’ve been kept up with over the years. Respectfully for the most part. We get requests periodically for “where are they now” update pictures from fan sites and are always happy to oblige. It’s a fun part of their history.
Would you believe that we didn’t actually know our Joy wasn’t credited in the movie until now?

Hmm. Can you give her an IMDb page, too? I checked, and her sisters all have one. (I don't know who can create IMDb pages for people, them/parents or agents.)

Joy doesn’t have an IMDb. And honestly, I think my older girls’ fan site webmasters kept their pages updated if memory serves? I never had time to keep track of all of that.
She is the youngest of 4 babies born in 4 years and this is the only film work she did- so nothing to put on her page aside from this one roll.
I was far too busy with the other three’s work (twin sisters were regulars on General Hospital at the time & big sis busy with print work) so I didn’t have Joy available for work after this movie. And as a singleton, there is very little film/commercial work available anyway, child labor law is very strict which is why multiples are necessary for film/tv. So she “retired” at about 9 months old.
Ironically, my child who did the least work as a little is my most devoted thespian now. She is obsessed with acting and singing and wants to continue to grow in local musical theater and eventually attend a performing arts JH & high school next year.

It was an animatronic doll with CG, as was Spock in the deleted scene. I recall seeing a photo with them in it.

I don’t remember having seen any dolls on this production, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t use them while testing the set which was a giant, very hot (albeit super cool looking) tube essentially with a ton of people packed into it. They try not to use actual babies until they are sure they are shooting viable footage. Child labor laws and set teachers who enforce them are rather strict, they only have so many minutes on set/on actual stage per baby (2 hrs/20 mins under 6 months) and only so many babies booked so they make the most out of the short time that they have.
Just a little peek into the BTS workings of film when working with children. ☺️

I’ll definitely look into it. I honestly didn’t know she wasn’t credited or that their was any mystery as to who did until yesterday.
I’m now on the other end of the camera in the industry (photogragher) and only one of my girls still works, strictly print, so it’s been YEARS since I’ve even thought about their online tv/film presence.
Joy is still young enough to be mortified that she “played a boy baby” in the movie and gets cranky when we tease her about it... even if it WAS practically the most iconic “boy baby” role ever. She will appropriate it much more in a few years. Ahhhh, tweens, you’ve got to love them.

BTW, linking a few recent pics of her. (Hoping I get the links right) We were FORBIDDEN to take any pictures on set that day, and had to sign major non-disclosure contracts etc so there are no set images or any evidence really. They kept this production under the tightest wraps EVER. They didn’t even tell us what she had been cast for until we were physically on set. They simply said it was a high profile top-secret casting... super intriguing and a very cool experience to be sure!

Yeah, Jenna’s mom Janet is a friend. And her backup, a boy baby named Aaron’s mom is also a dear friend. Joy and Aaron have grown up together. We all had kids repped by the same agency at the time and have stayed close over the years.
The funniest/worst part was no one had any idea which Spock or Kirk babies would actually make it into the film until it was released. Over a year later. They’re paid per-diem so they aren’t obligated to tell us anything post production, just had to watch the movie to find out. (Great for Joy & Jenna, more or less, but not so much for Aaron.)
