Who had the Biggest Ship...

2 of 10

Captain
Captain
Was the Galaxy Class Star Ship the largest ship in service, or was it a Klingon, Romulan or Cardissian ship. And I do recall in "Valiant" there was a prety big Dominion Ship, does anyone know who had the biggest in the service...

I totally forgot about that one, good call !! It's been a waaaaay long time since I saw that episode. I do remember as it approached the Enterprise it was a Giant Sphere and it's surface was made up of many large bubble type objects, each of those were bigger then the Enterprise. Was that the episode that introduced us Tranya, and the guy on the ship was played by Clint Howard??

out of the three main races i think the romulans had a valdore class starship which was bigger the the galaxy class

Federation: Galaxy-class (Venture Refit)
Klingon Empire: Negh'Var-class
Romulan Star Empire: Scimitar-class
Cardassian Union: Keldon-class
Borg Collective: Borg Cube
Dominion: Domininon Battleship
Ferengi Alliance: D'Kora-class
Klingon-Cardassian Alliance: Regency One

Romulan Star Empire: Scimitar-class

The D'Deridex-class Warbird is notably larger than the Scimitar. In fact, at its design length of 4,440 feet, it rather dwarfs any of the ships that, like it, we've seen more than once.

Getting into ships we only saw once, I think the Voth city-ship takes the cake, except possibly for V'ger (the cloud really obscured the size of the actual physical V'ger...thingy at the middle of it, so I am not quite sure how big that was).

a super star destroyer... er, i mean, the doomsday machine

I would really love to see an encounter between Kirk's Enterprise and a Super Star Destroyer. There could be two possible outcomes, either Kirks jaw drops to the floor and he runs away like a coward because of the size of the SSD or he does what we all know he does and that is look the ship face on and laugh at how pitifully weak there Commander must be before giving the command to fire all phasers.

the Enterprise would torpedo the bridge deflectors and then take out the command tower, just like the Rebel A-wings did in ROTJ.

Well, whaddaya know... I suppose the Scimitar's impressive wingspan is what gives the impression of mass. I never knew the Scimitar was actually shorter.

Then again, with all that empty space inside the D'Deridex, is mass the same as the "bigger" ship?

where would you get the idea that kirk would "run away like a coward"!he never exhibited that type of behavior anywhere in the series or movies! thats a dumb statement!

Yeah, Scimitar has wide wings, but aside from the main body, she is sorta spindly when it comes down to it. While the unusual double-hulled design of the D'Deridex class does make it tough to model accurately, volumetrically, it still seems to be something like 30 or 32 million cubic meters at the design length. That'd make it a little more than five times the size of a Galaxy-class starship (we don't know quite what it masses, but there's no especial reason to think it would be dramatically more or less dense than multipurpose starships of similar tech level). That's kookily big for sure; Romulans seem to try really hard at everything they do, even if we aren't always sure why.

The Valdore type seems to be just shy of five million cubic meters in volume itself, so while she is downright trim compared to her big sis D'Deridex, she is still larger than any known Federation starship except for the Galaxy class ships. Food for thought.

sorry :(

Everyone knows that the biggest was Balok's ship The Fesarius from The Corbomite Maneuever! ;) -- RR

Actually, I believe the Voth city ship was the biggest. The Xindi Aquatic ship and the vessel from "The Crossing" also seemed pretty emense.

Voth city ship, V'ger, Fesarius, whale probe, Spacedock (starbase 1 type undoubtedly mobile), Borg cube, Planet killer Deep Space Nine, Kazon warship, Krenim temporal weapon, Jem'hadar Battlecruiser, Romulan D'deridex class, Husnock ship, Son'a collector ship.

in that order

Rycher, I think your list is fairly complete. I completely forget about V'Ger, but I'm under the impression it's bigger than the Voth city ship. If you're going to include the Voth city ship, shouldn't the Dyson sphere from TNG ep Relics be in there, too? It was pretty damn huge, as I recall. -- RR

Was the Dyson sphere a ship though?
