If it's Star Trek fanfic, it should be for free. And that's why I only sell my book thru Lulu. They have an option to market thru Amazon, but I can't imagine it would last long before CBS C&Ded me.![]()

It's a tech manual like Jackill's stuff, and WTF man?If it's Star Trek fanfic, it should be for free.

It's a tech manual like Jackill's stuff, and WTF man?
Jackill, Mastercom (Aridas Sofia, Todd Geunther et al), Tom Sasser, Strategic Design, Starship Dynamics, etc, etc, have been making Tech Trek books and datasheets for money since the 1990s (Jackill says he put himself thru college with the sales!). It's a bit of a WTF for someone to suddenly decide to pick on ME for joining in.I'm of two minds on stuff like this. It is clearly an "IP issue", but "IP issue" material is what helped keep the franchise alive during many of its lulls.
It's a complicated issue, like @BillJ said. While fanzines kept fandom alive in the 70's, it is Paramount's property, and the world has changed a lot since then. Fantastic manuals and books have been put online as free PDFs, like Edge of Midnight and the Wolf 359 one and IMHO that's the way it should be when playing with someone else's toys. It's a tech manual like Jackill's stuff, and WTF man?
I wasn't trying to be personal, and apologize if I offended. I had the fake Star Trek novels on Amazon in mind when I posted, which have been a thorn in the side of the authorized Trek novelists for years.Jackill, Mastercom (Aridas Sofia, Todd Geunther et al), Tom Sasser, Strategic Design, Starship Dynamics, etc, etc, have been making Tech Trek books and datasheets for money since the 1990s (Jackill says he put himself thru college with the sales!). Well, I was not aware of your book before I saw this post.Jackill, Mastercom (Aridas Sofia, Todd Geunther et al), Tom Sasser, Strategic Design, Starship Dynamics, etc, etc, have been making Tech Trek books and datasheets for money since the 1990s (Jackill says he put himself thru college with the sales!). Agreed. It's hard for me to say without sounding like an ass, but having run afoul of copyright while doing film work with friends I definitely know that it is a delicate balance for both the artist being paid, and the unauthorized use. It's why I struggle with paying for such fan items because it's such a thorny issue. It's a complicated issue, like @BillJ said. And I have questions around them too (and haven't heard of half of them. Jackill being the only one I've seen around the Interwebz, not ever for sale). It's not personal; it's simply the reality of the world of playing in someone else's sandbox, as Daniel notes.Jackill, Mastercom (Aridas Sofia, Todd Geunther et al), Tom Sasser, Strategic Design, Starship Dynamics, etc, etc, have been making Tech Trek books and datasheets for money since the 1990s (Jackill says he put himself thru college with the sales!).
