What's upcoming? I'm a little out of the loop.

So Red vs. Blue was high brow? Damn, there's a sentence I never thought I would write.

Star trek was not always high brow at all. It was sometimes cheap entertainment. Because that's what it is at the end of the day: entertainment. Meant to amuse, not a treatise on life, liberty and all you can eat buffets.
Red vs. Blue? What is that? Did I say Star Trek was always high brow? You are arguing against a claim I did not make. I said Star Trek is high brow, but that does not mean every scene and every episode is devoid of humor and comedy. Come on now.

Cheap entertainment is Seinfeld. Star Trek is a step up, don't you think?

I would not compare Seinfeld and Star Trek. Apples to Spam comparison.

Red vs Blue is a web series that was initially a comedy short form format, 5 minute episodes, that became far more than that initial approach. It ended up exploring themes of loss, trauma, death, and the nature of heroism.

I push against the "high brow" designation because I think Star Trek is structured for more of an action/adventure platform, so it can be high brow sometimes, but that isn't its primary definition.

How do you define highbrow? Star Trek kind of spoiled me, because most TV shows by comparison are just lame, focused too much on heavy drama for drama's sake or dumb humor that doesn't require thinking.

Primarily philosophical or other such musings on the human condition. Something like opera or Shakespeare, vs. most Televison presentations I've watched.

For fun and the characters are interesting.
Fair enough. That's why I "watch TV." I watch Star Trek for more than fun and characters. I watch to see engaging stories that grapple with ethics, morality, right and wrong, selfishness and selflessness, people learning from their wrongs and working toward rights, the betterment of self and the world, the drive to do more and be more, how easy power can corrupt, how hard it is to know when to back off or when to surrender, personal sacrifices for the values of the greater good, being willing to die to save innocent people just trying to live their lives. That is Star Trek. You won't get that from most modern TV dramas and sitcoms.

You must not watch a lot of TV

You and I watch different shows then.

Finding depth is relatively easy for me for what little TV I watch. Trek doesn't have the corner on those listed things.

Most television is crap, boring, or dumb. Shows I do like outside of Star Trek include:

Dramas
All of Us Are Dead / Everwood / Firefly / Fringe / The Gifted / Gotham / House / Invasion (2005) / Jericho / Legion / Lost in Space (Netflix) / The Outer Limits (90's) / Roswell (1999) / Sanctuary / SeaQuest DSV / Stargate (SG-1 / Atlantis / Universe) / Stranger Things / Surface / Sweet Home / Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Miniseries
The Bible / Broken Trail / The Haunting of... (Bly Manor / Hill House) / Lonesome Dove (plus 2 sequels & 2 prequels) / Midnight Mass / Moby Dick (1998)

Sitcoms
Cheers, Frasier (1993), I Love Lucy, The Jeffersons

Animated
Adventures of Puss in Boots / Cowboy Bebop / Erased / Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous / Jurassic World: Chaos Theory / Neon Genesis Evangelion / Shaun the Sheep / Terminator Zero

There may be more, but you get the idea.

I find most TV shows lack depth and are just dumbed down fun that you can put on in the background while chilling with family and friends or doing chores such as the laundry. I prefer TV shows that require my full attention, otherwise I get bored and tune out.
