nope just watched the film 'meteor' the one with Sean Connery in

I would trust the government. Governments are not traditionally in the habit of allowing millions of their own people to die by natural events. If they haven't released the information, they must have their reasons for keeping it hidden from the public. Maybe they expect to be able to destroy or move the meteor and causing mass panic will only get people killed.
