What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5???

John Mason

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I would like to know why captain Picard wore that daft green sweater with a crimson tunic in season 5. Could it have been a homage to the green wrap around Captain Kirk wore in TOS?

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

It always looked gray to me. It just seemed an alternative captain's attire, or maybe a star demand if Stewart was complaining about the pajama jumpsuits.

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

I thought the sweater and jacket were pretty cool, although I do think he looked a little odd wearing it on away missions. Probably should have been kept as just a casual, shipboard outfit.

Rightyo.. what colour do you get when you mix green with gray???:vulcan: Graen??? :guffaw:

You may want to adjust the color settings on your TV, that or you're color blind. The sweater was gray and it was, indeed, supposed to be indicative of the alternative Captain's uniform that Kirk had.

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

It was to evoke Kirk's green alternate uniform (except it wasn't green).

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

I think the purpose of most sweaters is to keep the wearer warm.

what sweater?

It didn't seem to work very well for Picard in Darmok when he was shivering in the cold and had to get Dathon to make him a fire. :p

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

Imagine discovering you're color blind on an online bbs.

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

Picard's jacket was really cool. The sweater underneath... not so much. Did Beverly knit it for him, perhaps?

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

Yeah, because the sweater was obviously knitted from yarn.

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

I thought Picard's captain's jacket looked cool.

Maybe Sir Patrick had a hand in it, if so I liked the design lol..

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

That grey sweater he had on was a glimpse of things to come. It was the beginnings of the TNG grey uniforms. He's the captain. Captain's prerogative. On a side note, I never really like that Darmok episode. T'nagra the walls fell.

Re: What was the purpose of the green sweater Picard wore in season 5?

There was also a similar "Captain's variant" of the First Contact uniforms, with a waistcoat instead of full jacket, that both Picard and Sisko were seen wearing a couple of times.
