What happened to Carol Marcus?

Amasov

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I've always wondered what became of Carol Marcus after the events of Wrath of Khan and even The Search for Spock. Even though she hadn't appeared in the third film, I've often though about when she was, or even if, notified of her son's death. My assumption was that Kirk contacted her sometime between The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home to inform her of their son's passing.

I cannot recall if Marcus had ever again been mentioned by Kirk in the later films or not.

What do you all think she went on to do?

Also, was it ever considered to bring the actress back for any of the other films?

Sadly, Bibi Besch, who played Carol Marcus has passed away. Some time before her passing, I met her at a convention. She joked about how Shatner didn't want her in "his" movie. She then quoted the line from TWOK, "Jim Kirk was many things, but he was never a boy scout." Any acuracy to this? I have no idea. I just know that it was said.
I do recall the novelization of TSFS, where the author included information about Carol which indicated she had been lovers with one of the scientist who was killed on Regula 1, and therefore she gave Kirk the brush off.

Novelization of ST III - Carol visits the parents of March and Madison.

Novelization of ST IV - Carol visits the Deltan relatives of Jedda and his partner Zinaida.

Novelization of ST VI - Carol badly injured by a Klingon raid, reinforcing why Kirk is so anti-Klingons in the movie.

Novels "Genesis Wave Book 1" and "Book 2" - set in TNG era, an elderly Carol is kidnapped so that a new Genesis Wave can be unleashed on Federation planets. Elderly Maltz helps her and Picard to stop it.

I would imagine as ultimately contact with his father (or at least his father's world) got David killed very quickly, she would never talk to Kirk again.

I know it was not really Kirk's fault David was killed, but I suspect Carol would never see it that way.

I'm going to find a sci-fi convention and start a riot, now.

It shall be my goal in life.

What happened to Carol Marcus is a good question ... I have also always wondered what happened to Gillian Taylor after she was brought to Kirk's time and found a posting on a science vessel (end of ST:IV).

Yeah, Gillian would be a cool mother or grandmother for a TNG era crew member

Her son dies soon after his father the galactic hero is revealed to him—her worst nightmare made manifest. It's likely she and Kirk never spoke again.

The Genesis Wave book duology/trilogy, set in the NextGen movie era, begin with Carol having been "retired" secretly by Starfleet on some remote, uninhabited but beautiful planet.

At the start of the DC comics (Vol 1) Mirror Universe Saga, Carol sells Kirk out to Starfleet and Excelsior is dispatched to arrest him and the crew.
