View-Master Presents Star Trek

^^^ I tried enhancing the nacelle and there just isn't enough data there, as far as I can tell, to get a good look at the registry number. The primary hull decal is completely obscured.

What I find interesting is that someone took the time to scrape the balls off the aft nacelle caps to make it look like a pilot warp engine design (without the grid). I don't think the original AMT models had that option to start with, so why the hell would they do that?

And the Enterprise definitely looks like the three-footer. I don't believe the AMT model ever had a bridge that looked like that. Not FJ enough.

In my youth, I tried to spot the registry number as well, with no luck. I suspect that picture was just a composite of two shots of the three-foot model.

I don't recall the AMT "E" of that era having any balls.

Nope. Interviews with the View-Master people confirmed the "smaller" ship is an AMT model kit.

I own those View Master slides. They're a remnant from my childhood, and I also owned the Pocket Flex automatic reel film/cartridge of "By Any Other Name."

I actually had this when I was a kid! It was great reliving it.
The author of the site really hates the episode though, doesn't he? I never understood the animosity toward OG, it's always been one of my favorite episodes.

With a high resolution scan, the registry number appears to be something like "NCC - LS" The last letters or digits clearly occupy less space than the NCC so there must be fewer than three. Also, the red stripe starts very close to the LS."

Heh...I knew I was going to walk headlong into that. I honestly couldn't figure out any other way to say it. :p

The initials of the AMT model kit assembler, perhaps?

Now that's a darn good suggestion! You may be right. The LS doesn't look like it's from the decal set of the model.

yep the good old pocket flix ...mine still works and is at my parents house, i'm gonna have to grab it next time i journey downthere.

omg the memories picture

Ohhh wow the memories. Ymm. I had the Yesteryear wheels. I think it was 2 months later the Foster novelizations came out. I found them at the library. :sigh:

Peanuts: those were cool. When I finally saw the toys and manquettes the 3d shapes didn't throw me.

The last time I checked, my Pocket Flex still worked. And my View Master and reels are all put away where they won't get damaged.

I wonder if my parents know which box in their attic has my view-master and "Omega Glory" episode. It has to be more than 30 years since I last looked at it.

I'm surprised View Master didn't come out with more TREK-themed(TNG, movies, etc.)discs when the toy was reissued to stores with an updated design and new packaging in the late '90s and the early part of this decade.

Those are awesome. I'd love to see more pics though.

I have scans of all the frames from "Mr. Spock's Time Trek", but I'm afraid that if I post them some people might take them and post them on their own websites without giving me any credit.

Watermark them. Put "property of startrekanimated.com" across the center of each one in one of those "clear/shadow" fonts that you can see the text but it's not a solid color that obsures the details.

People generally won't take photos if they can't claim them as their own, and those clear watermarks are hard to undo, even in Photoshop.

Except they're not "property of startrekanimated.com". They are "property of View-Master" and "copyright Filmation/Paramount/CBS".
