UT: TFV - Operation Vanguard

Captain T'Ser with Pava Lar'ragos as her XO? Egad! :wtf:

If my jaw keeps hitting the floor, I'm sending you the bill for my dental work. ;)
My bad!

Oh, and nice dialogue between Pell and Pava. Awkward, but very revealing meeting between these two complex characters. I have to admit, what Pava said made a lot of sense. And if the need arose to use alpha weapons, I'm not sure that Pell could do it. Then again, I'm not sure that it would be as easy for Pava as he seems to believe.
Perhaps not, but he'd never tell her that.

Pava was pretty forceful in this segment, wasn't he? If I didn't know any better it almost felt as if he wants to get the XO gig for his own selfish reasons. Of course, I do know better.

As for him being able to press the button when it comes to it. Somehow I have no doubt he wouldn't hesitate. The man is a stone-cold SOB if he has to be.
And sometimes when he doesn't have to be...

Holy Sh**!

Ok, I didn't buy the idea that you'd end this particular tale on a high note of love and goodwill, especially since I didn't recognize the Starfleet ship or the alien race for that matter. But boy oh boy did I not expect this.

Surprise enough that the devious Baron is behind this unwarranted attack, seemingly just one more ploy in his plan to uterly destroy Sandhurst, but the revelation that his ally is the believed to be dead Ramirez is the real shocker here.

Is she a clone, a cyborg, a shapeshifter or could it really be the original, somehow resurrected, turned and corrupted by the Baron for his devilish purposes of hurting Sandhurst?

What a twist. Naturally, a long delay for the next installment cannot be tolerated.

Um.

What the hell just happened?

I Did NOT see that coming. The Baron played that beautifully, as much as it pains me to say it. And the late Liana Ramirez is back?!?

Things just got WAAAAY more complicated.

This is probably a silly question, but who/what is The Baron? If a nutshell answer can be given, that would be appreciated, as well as where I can read more about him.

And damn, sir, you can write!

Much obliged, kind sir! :D

In a nutshell, the Baron is the closest thing Sandhurst has to a nemesis, a time-traveling interdimensional bad guy.

He first appeared in my second Gibraltar novel, Geometries of Chance: http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=146

Oh My God! I just got caught up. Have much more to say about much I've read, but what I had to say immediately was ... OH! MY! GOD! The Baron Resurrecting Liana Ramirez? I literally gasped audibly.

That is pure evil. And pure genius. I LOVE it!

Or, as Blip said:

You... unimaginable, twisted, magnificent b*stard, you!

DOH!!!

Wow, I didn't see that coming. I did wonder who would name a Federation ship Masada given the rather sombre meaning the place has. But I truly believed them to be Starfleet. I also thought that the meeting was going along a bit too smoothly and I thought that something like the computer virus (unintentional, of course) or a fatal cultural misunderstanding would happen but I certainly didn't expect the Baron to be behind this. Also, where did Ramirez come from?

Holy water cannot help you now
A thousand armies couldn't keep me out
I don't want your money
I don't want your crown
See I've come to burn your kingdom down

Holy water cannot help you now
See I've come to burn your kingdom down
And no rivers and no lakes can put the fire out
I'm gonna raise the stakes, I'm gonna smoke you out

Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in your house
See I was dead when I woke up this morning
And I'll be dead before the day is done
Before the day is done

Nice teaser for Scorched Earths with a really creepy and appropriate "theme" song. I even like your spin on the classic dish-best-served-cold trope.

Needless to say, anticipation is high.

Many, many thanks to the incredible Mike Garcia for the phenomenal cover for this book!
