News USS Dauntless

There's still no evidence of this. You're making an assumption.

Hardly.
If it needed benemite crystals they would have mentioned it.
The crew was quickly able to adapt the technology to VOY with some Warp core modifications. Again, there was no mention of Benemite crystals that Arturis Dauntless needed it (and also, one would think that the crew wouldn't want to canibalize the Dauntless crystals when the crew was told in the fake message that they're supposed to stay in Slipstream for 3 months).

Plus, there was sufficient deviation between the two versions of the technology which can easily explain the first version would not need benemite crystals, whereas the second one would (because it was essentially an extreme modification of the baseline technology and sported various technology that v1 never had).

For Arturis Dauntless which used v1 of the Slipstream and didn't need Benemite crystals, its not an issue because it would be no different than using Warp for 1 minute (which has been done).
Warp for a minute may have been done, but the quick engage/disengage cycle would cause a strain. Same goes for slipstream.
Besides, you wouldn't be doing this constantly.
You would if slipstream were the only mode of FTL travel a ship had.

Considering benamite crystals were unknown prior to Timeless, how did the Voyager crew know of them, and that quantum slipstream needs them if not from Arturis, the same person they learned of quantum slipstream from?

Besides, we know from Disco that even in the 32nd century quantum slipstream is impossible without benamite crystals. If Arturis's people weren't using benamite to power their slipstream, why isn't that alternative being used?

Because it wasn’t important to the episode. Also the writers hadn’t created them yet.

An absence of evidence isn’t evidence in itself.

There’s nothing in the dauntless episode that says it doesn’t use benemite, there’s also nothing that says it does. It’s unknown.

You’re using your own fan theory as fact when there is no facts.

But there have been numerous instances where use of Warp drive was stated it should be AVOIDED near gravity wells... which is why starships (usually) drop out of warp before entering a solar system.

And as I said, there have been numerous on-screen demonstrations that this isn't a physical limitation. We might therefore deduce that this is more of a "speed limit" issue. After all, for busy planets like Earth or Vulcan having starships continually crashing out of warp in close orbit would be a navigation hazard to put it mildly...

They have definitely scaled up the Dauntless for season 1.5, since this cutaway and deck plan from the last episode of 1.0 has the ship (source) has the ship barely bigger than the Voyager version. Either that or the guys doing the bridge LCARS just weren't told the correct size/they made an assumption.

Is this the first time we've actually seen a QWERTY keyboard on an LCARS display?
I think so, aside from an old qwerty keyboard hung sideways at the top of TNG engineering. It's not *quite* qwerty on Prodigy, though.

I liked ENT's almost-qwerty panels, with lots missing giving the impression of predictive text having come miles in 150 years totally negating the need for several letters. ST'09 had them all over the bridge and Disco S2 had a very prominent one in a shuttle once. Disco S4 having them on the holocombadges feels kinda meh... like it's been 900 years, they should have something radical and new by then.

Although, looking at the way the numbers are arranged on the left side keyboard, with the zero coming first it's making me think that's the Kelvin timeline keyboard.

Oh, holy shit. Looking over the right side of the computer panel, the third row down is a button which says "MARINES CORPS." Does that mean there's a Marine Detachment on the Dauntless? Is this show actually canonizing Starfleet Marines?

If it means the drunk and disorderly on deck B, as well as the fire in the shuttlebay is canon, then yes. I want utter chaos happening below decks during that quick scene at the end of episode 10

If it does the show has become totally worth it.

Didn't the Enterprise series from the 22nd century already do that when the NX-01 went to the Expanse?
Although, granted, those events preclude creation of UFP, so we don't know what may have survived into UFP Starfleet and what did not from that era.

'Twas the United Earth MACOS that were integrated in the UFP Starfleet. So, not the same thing.

Indeed. There was talk of having Marines on the NX-01 in the first season, indeed one of the earlier ideas was that Malcolm Reed was a Marine Major in charge of the NX-01's MARDET. But then UPN cried this was "Not Star Trek" and Major Reed and his Marines became Lt. Reed and his bog standard Starfleet Security force. Of course once the MACOS showed up they basically took over security on the NX-01 anyway, with Reed being the only actual Starfleet Security officer on the ship in the third and fourth seasons.

Star Trek VI already did that with COLONEL West. ;)

(Also I believe the blue-uniformed personnel accompanying Kirk and company to Nimbus III in ST V were supposed to be Starfleet Marines.)

Many more details in these cutaways from the second part of season one

Atomic missiles along her spine?

Also mods, now we're past the spoiler time and there are fresh spoiler ships for season 2, can this thread be renamed "USS Dauntless" please?
