Spoilers Una's future

Part of me thinks that there will be some kind of situation where Pike will vouch for her, given her exemplary service record to show that she was not in any way affected by her genetic engineering.

That, along with Starfleet's discrimination against certain races due to the genetic engineering forced an otherwise great asset to Starfleet to not report her upbringing truthfully.

A couple good arguments to drop the charges or something.

Pike presumably did all that for Una in the bad future and failed.

This may be an opportunity for the writers to examine and, maybe, knock the table sideways a bit where the nonsense of this "Federation ban on genetic modification" is concerned. It's a notion that's way out of date and inconsistent with the rest of this future civilization's putative value system.

It's due for an adjustment along the lines of the SNW version of the Eugenics War/WWIII.

Yeah. A good court martial-style episode, or measure of a man. Something along those lines. Courtroom drama.

Given we know Kirk is supposed to have a larger role in season 2, is it possible Una might well be leaving and Kirk will become the Enterprise's XO? The only wrinkle I see in this theory is the filming photos showing Kirk with a different chest insignia on his uniform. Could that be from the premiere, showing him on adventures on whatever ship he's currently on before getting transferred to the Enterprise?

Maybe sending these letters would have set in motion a series of events that actually prevents PIke being able to help Una due to....plot reasons.

Totally this. Pike made another "time crystal" deal, this time with his future self instead of a Klingon. Pike should've called security on Admiral Pike the moment he showed up and given him the full interrogation treatment and Admiral Pike's time crystal taken to a Federation lab.

Or at least phasered his future self.

In universe, hope she takes a deal, resigns Starfleet when Pike becomes Fleet Captain.
The Trek attitude to Augments is bullshit and breaks every real life discrimination rule . Imagine banning all white males from serving in the armed forces
because the majority of serial killers.../QUOTE]

Actually, you don't have to "imagine", really. Right now, the DoD is trying to root out "White supremacy" in the US Armed Services. Outside of that, there are medical disqualifications that prevent people from serving in any capacity, even if abled-body.

I mean, she was there during Pike's experience shown during The Cage, so she's got plot armor to that extent. But something happens to her after that...

How so? All we see is her being beamed off the ship. We've no idea what Pike's plans are.
But surely in the other timeline he would have done everything possible and that didn’t work.
Only difference now is that he’s aware of James Kirk. Maybe he’ll ask him to do one of his epic speeches and that will convince Starfleet to let her go.
