Spoilers Una's future

mattman8907

So in the S1 finale of Strange New Worlds, we see that Una is arrested for keeping her Illyrian heritage a secret. We also learned that as of the alternate 2266 she was incarcerated on the Salius VI penal colony. Now that Pike has learned of that knowledge, do you think he will use it to free Una in some way or is her fate sealed as well like Pike's? Also will Rebecca Romjin be part of the main cast next year or will she be reduced to a guest star role and will Spock take her place as First officer?

In universe, hope she takes a deal, resigns Starfleet when Pike becomes Fleet Captain.
The Trek attitude to Augments is bullshit and breaks every real life discrimination rule . Imagine banning all white males from serving in the armed forces
because the majority of serial killers are white males? Or lets ban all humans born and raised in Germany from Trek Starfleet in case they start a global war? Utter nonsense!
Maybe the actor wanted to move on from the show?

Well I don’t think that she has really committed a crime, she can’t help being what she is. You can’t lock someone up for their heritage. That would not be very Star Trek like… I don’t think that she should be locked up for lying about her heritage either. At the worse she should be dismissed from service, at the best her outstanding performance records would counter her ‘crime’ and she would remain in service on board the Enterprise. She could possibly get a demotion though?

She would definitely need a fair, unbiased and unprejudiced trial/court martial. A penal colony is *definitley* a bit extreme though.

I agree but the UFP and Starfleet are totally illogical when it comes to this situation. Imagine setting rules for an entire galactic organisation based on an event in Earth's history. I hope they retcon this nonsense from the franchise in Picard or Discovery.
It's utter crap!

I have no idea what's going to happen, but I hope Pike manages to spring her and get her back as Number One. At this point I'd be really bummed if she left the show. We already lost Hemmer. If we lose Una as well, that would be two of my three favorite characters gone. :wah:

It's a trap!

Una is not going anywhere. An episode or two into next season and it will be resolved and a thing of the past.

This is something that Trek has done dozens of times; a cliffhanger where a character is in jeopardy... What are the odds that it'll get resolved?

Any unauthorized heroics that Pike will pull off for Una has a higher chance of getting Spock injured or killed than him just leaving at the end of his 5 year mission in 2265. Oh wait, this isn't the 'quality of mercy' thread...

Well she's not on the Enterprise in TOS..

Maybe Pike will start to rescue her but then a future version of himself will show up with a time crystal to show him the ramifications of changing the future.
Totally this. Pike made another "time crystal" deal, this time with his future self instead of a Klingon. Pike should've called security on Admiral Pike the moment he showed up and given him the full interrogation treatment and Admiral Pike's time crystal taken to a Federation lab.

TOS

McCoy: They're about to lop off the captain's professional head, and you're sitting here playing chess with the computer.
Spock: That is true.
McCoy: Mister Spock, you're the most cold-blooded man I've ever known.
Spock: Why, thank you, Doctor.

SNW

M'Benga: They're about to lop off Una's head, and you're sitting here playing chess with the computer.

First off, I think she ratted on herself as part of some weird plan to save Pike.

But yeah, I think in the end she’ll be kicked out of Starfleet but not imprisoned. Then Pike brings her aboard as a civilian advisor or some sort.

There needs to be some explanation why Pike doesn't do this in the alternate timeline though. Strictly speaking, realistically he should learn something in this week's time travel episode that his bad future counterpart didn't that saves Una from 7+ years of jail. What that could be, I couldn't really tell. The only wild card factor is James Kirk, who Pike is now aware of 7 years before they meet in the bad future timeline. Well, that and Pike now knows what Romulans look like years before anyone else in the Fed.
