Question @PixelMagic: Even though I'm limiting new SSDB additions to official designs these days (it exhausted me keeping up with all the fan-made designs for the past 20+ years), I really would love to preserve this one for posterity. It's above and beyond most things I've seen. Could I have your permission to put it in there for the next release?

You're most welcome. Way I see it, Star Trek isn't my IP anyway, so anything I make fan related is open source.
As much as I love (love, love, love, love, love) the aesthetics of the classic NCC-1701 / NCC-1701-A type of Federation starship design, it's not actually all that realistic. It has so many "flaws" (none of which are aesthetic in nature) that it really doesn't make much sense as a possible future starfaring vessel.
But this, this looks a lot more "feasible". I can picture this being something that mankind might actually travel the stars with.
And it looks good.

Who's the Tyson the ship is named after?

Neil Degrasse Tyson, yes. The registry is a nod to his birthday.
[B]@PixelMagic[/B], quick question - what would you classify this vessel as? Meaning, like an escort, scout, destroyer, etc.?
I have no idea. I never get that deep into thought over it. It's named after Neil Degrasse Tyson, so I guess a science vessel? I just designed it as part of a larger Kelvin fleet to fill out the background...heh.

A couple questions:
Does it only have torpedo launchers aft?
and Does it have no ventral Phaser defenses? It appears the only Phasers are topside
