trekkie or trekker

I don't mind either way.
There was some definition going around quite a few years ago that was something like a Trekkie just enjoys the show and knows a lot of trivia and all, but a Trekker wears costumes and goes to conventions. Could be all crap though.

Does anyone actually give a shit?
Yes. At least once daily, sometimes twice. Why do you want to know about our bathroom habits? Perhaps you should seek psychological help for that problem- or is it a fetish of yours?

Trekkie was always a term of insult toward Star Trek fans when I was a teen fan. When TNG came along, and it gained in popularity, I started hearing the term Trekker. It didn't seem to have as much stigma attached to it.
So I didn't mind being called a Trekker, therefore that is my vote. :vulcan:
Trekologist reminds me of the college courses that were devoted to the study of Star Trek at one time. I don't know if they are still around.
Whichever term you identify with, I'm just happy you are a fan. (Or for Marie1, Trek-friendly:rommie:)

Does it really matter?

Growing up "trekkie" was used as an insult. I've grown used to the term and thinks it's cute.

You need to work on your delivery. The joke was workable (barely), but the execution was just poor.

The kind of idiots who would use "trekkie" as an insult would probably do the same with "trekker" if that term was more widely known, and these people think Trek fans (or indeed, sci fi fans in general) are nerdy, pathetic people. By quibbling over the correct term you want used to describe you as a devotee of a television show... it sort of gives them ammunition, does it not?

Pah. Either way, I just don't understand why anyone cares. I like Deep Space Nine and people can call me what they like.

I have always proudly owned the epithet "Trekkie." I self-identify thus.

That said, I agree with the "not this shit again" crowd. Who, at this point, really cares?

I always thought it was "Trekker" in the '70s, and "Trekkie" in the '80s and forward.

I personally always say something like, "oh yeah, I love Trek ... the real one, of course ... without Shatner it's nothing - he was awesome"

Totally in charge, hamming it up, saving some lame scripts here and there, he totally was.
