T'Pol's Eyebrows

Early on in the series I expect that the studio and network tried to downplay the nerdier visual aspects of Trek in the (ultimately forlorn) hope that non-Trekkies might see some of the publicity and sample the show (this would be, indeed, the logical explanation for boob jobs as well).

Unfortunately for UPN, nobody was fooled; they realized that the show not called Star Trek: Something was Star Trek anyway.

According to a rumor I saw, Jolene Blalock and her makeup artist were behind the eyebrow change in season 3, and apparently it made Brannon Braga somewhat upset, which is why in a few episodes you can actually see that her regular eyebrows have been left uncovered (usually they were covered over with make-up) along with her Vulcan eyebrows. But this is just a rumor as far as I know.

Now I feel ignorant for never noticing the eyebrow issue. But then again, with Jolene Blalock, my attention isn't exactly drawn to her eyebrows first......

It's to her dazzling personality, right? Am I right or am I right? :D

But yeah, I've always noticed her ever-changing eyebrows.

What I don't get is the need to add brow ridges to the Romulans in TNG. Made 'em look like Vulcan Frankenstein monsters.

 I am totally with you there. I prefer the Romulans in TOS (and I rather like the ones in nuTrek as well).

I'm fairly certain that Jolene has shared this in interviews (about the eyebrow change, not Braga's reaction to it). She's been a fan of TOS, grew up watching it. It was one of the reasons she was looking forward to playing T'Pol as Spock was one of her favorite characters. JB openly admits that she's a geek. (Which only makes my straight-girl crush on her all the more intense.)

I'm definitely glad that JB pushed for the change. She looked far more Vulcan with the upswept brows. And yes, I always hated Savaak's brows. It's one of the defining features of Vulcans.

Well, if Jolene's the reason why T'Pol finally got her rightfully Vulcan eyebrows, then she has my utmost respect. It was only logical, anyway.:vulcan:

If this is actually the case, than I too have some more respect for her. Another thing I read was that she tried to fight a scene in which she ate popcorn with her bare hands, because she remembered T'Pol saying in the first episode that Vulcans don't like to touch their food. It is a pity that her character was essentially reduced to being the series's Ms. Fan Service.

That's true, she said so herself in an interview. But then again, a race as advanced and enlightened as Vulcans shouldn't have trouble observing traditions of their hosts (they of all people would know about "when in Rome"). Also, I doubt that Vulcan dogma (The Teachings of Surak) would have had stuff like "Thou shall not eat with thy fingers" in it. I think their main reason behind this was not philosophy but hygiene.

Probably, but there's something to be said for consistency. It also might have been fun for her to see her eat popcorn with chopsticks to get around the finger food issue.
