Torchwood Sucks

Yep, me I'm afraid. As big a fan of Who as I am (and that includes all of the RTD era) I've never been able to find much good to say about Torchwood. The first season suffered from unlikeable characters and juvenile writing that wanted to be Angel without coming close to that show's level, and while Season Two was a bit of an improvement the cast were still lacking and the episodes sub par. It's not a patch on its parent show.

This. Plus some delusions of Men In Black.

Plus, for being a government agency of crack professionals, they all act like they're in High School. These are some of the most weak, immature, unprofessional, childish people I've ever seen. There's no way these people and their day to day soap opera would ever get a government job or work at a fast food chain. Jack being the exception. Season Two did a good job cleaning up alot of this, granted. But the Gwen/Owen/Tosh melodrama of season one is hard to forget about. And not in the good way. I was glad they dropped the Gwen/Owen thing and acted like it never happened. As it was disgusting

And you'd think that a top secret agency would consist of more then 5 people. All of whom just happen to be bi-sexual. Because that's not a weird coincidence at all.

I also find myself asking why Gwen is there. She's not a genius at anything. She's kind of dumb actually. She was just a beat cop that got nosey. She really doesn't doing anything other then just be Jack's sidekick.

I hated Owen in the first season. He was the most obnoxious punk alive. He was unbearable. But they tempered his character alot in the second season and gave him depth and character. His arc in the second season I really liked. So by the end he was my favorite character.

I won't defend the first season. It was awful. But I will defend the second as the stories got better, the characters became more likeable, and most of the problems of the first were done away with.

isn't this trolling?
A more open thread title would surely be more constructive. It doesn't cost anything to add a question mark or something. Or phrase it "I hate xxxx". Passing what looks like definite judgement in a thread title might be catchy but too peremptory to sound like it invites discussion. Not to mention offensive to those who disagree.

Or why don't I quote Trek BBS rule #2 (under "Things You Can Do"):
Show Criticism
It's fine to say a certain aspect of [the show] is bad, as long as you don't insult the people who think otherwise, and as long as you actually back up what you say. Jumping in and shouting "Kirk sucks!" is not an acceptable form of constructive criticism.

I can barely stand to watch Torchwood. I think some Doctor Who fans like it out of misplaced loyalty to the franchise. When you compare the series to other high profile BBC drama's though, it really does look like a second rate CBBC production with added profanity - it's immature, cheap looking, badly acted and miscast.

I've never given up on the show though. I will be watching the Children of Earth in hope that it can deliver the goods. Not holding high hopes though as the trailer looks terrible. :(

That's about it. S2 was an improvement over S1 but the show as a whole is hit and miss and largely miss for me. I've tried to like it but have a hard time getting past the X-Files meets Buffy meets bi-orgy approach.

Yeah, it sucks. I like the premise, and the concept of characters, but the realization is at best uneven, and at worst unwatchable. The writing is terrible, the characterization all over the place, and the relationships between characters are just random. Every character loves/hates/fucks/betrays/screams at every other, without any explanation. I love to see some bi-sexual characters (or even characters for whom the gender is not much an issue for relationships), but that's the only redeeming quality. Well, and Captain Jack. You can't help but like Captain Jack.

I just watch it because I fancy Eve Myles. :p

I have to admit though that it makes me all warm inside to think of good old Doctor Who as a "franchise". :)

I think you all know how I feel about Crotchwood.

Personally, I feel that even five episodes this year are five too many.

Well, really there's only 2 clearly bisexual characters on the show, Jack & Ianto. Gwen is straight. She only kissed a girl when she was under alien influences in "Day One" (and unlike Katy Perry, I don't think she liked it).

There is a question mark around Owen & Tosh though. They seem mostly straight but they have had isolated incidents. The only time Owen has ever displayed some bisexual tendencies was when he kissed that guy in "Everything Changes," and we might chalk that up to "pilot" error. And so far, we haven't seen any indications of Tosh being attracted to women beyond her alien affair in "Greeks Bearing Gifts."

^So basically... In a cast of five there are two bisexual characters, two who are debatably bisexual, and one who has had bisexual experiences. Nope, not bisexual at all!

I love Dr Who, but I do not care for Torchwood. It's slow, it's boring, it's unrelentingly dark. It actually out does nuBSG in its darkness I think! The second season was a mite better though.
