TOP 5 TV theme songs...

1. It's Garry Shandling's Show. This was one of the first shows on FOX network, and it was very meta, both the show and the song. The show regularly broke "the fourth wall," and the lyrics to the very catchy tune went: This is the theme to Garry's show, this is the theme to Garry's show, Garry called me up and asked if I would write his theme song ... We're almost halfway there, how do you like it so far? This is the theme to Garry Shandling's Show. And then it kind of runs out of lyrics and whistles for a bit. Brilliant.

2. The Greatest American Hero (just nailed the premise of the show from the point of view of the befuddled main character). Look what just happened to me, I can't believe it myself, suddenly I'm up on top of the world -should have been somebody else! Believe it or not, I'm walking on air ...

3. Starblazers. Really, look it up on YT. It's amazing and epic.

4. The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd. It's a beautiful piece of jazz.

5. Mr. Rogers. It just makes me feel good whenever I hear it. Won't you be, won't you please, please won't you be my neighbor? Hi, Neighbor!

Starblazers and The Greatest American Hero. Two great picks!! The others, aside from Mr. Rogers, I haven't heard before.

The Greatest American Hero is a classic theme song. Just as you said, it sets up the show each episode. Brady Bunch, Jeffersons, Gilligan's Island were also very good at doing this too.

1. JONNY QUEST (Best Theme Ever!)
2. Mission Impossible
3. 24 (Though they never play it during the broadcast)
4. The A-Team
5. Wonder Woman

4. The A-Team
5. Wonder Woman

The thing I have often wondered about Wonder Woman's theme song? The dude sings "Get us out from under, wonder woman"...why would you want that?

We have been watching old 24 (first time since the start) and we are midway through season two...love the ending credits music..great pic there Admiral 2

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he had a less lacivious metaphor in mind there, Rob. :)

Good as it is, just the part at the end credits doesn't do it justice. You gotta hear the full, CD version to get how awesome this theme is:

In no order:

1. St. Elsewhere
2. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
3. Perfect Strangers
4. The Ellen Burstyn Show
5. The Bob Newhart Show

From the top of my head...

24
MacGyver
Millennium
Mission: Impossible
The Prisoner

1. JONNY QUEST (Best Theme Ever!)
2. Mission Impossible
3. 24 (Though they never play it during the broadcast)
4. The A-Team
5. Wonder Woman

WONDER WOMAN!? I really like the show but it has one of the most annoying theme songs in history. I'm not sure which is worse: Wonder Woman's theme song or Spongebob Squarepants.

BTW, I'm not trying to flame you. Just stating an opinion. No offense intended.

Cowboy Bebop
Batman: the Animated Series
Daria
Teen Titans
The X-Files (perhaps its ubiquity makes it easy to forget how distinctive it is)

BATMAN animated is a great theme, good unique choice. I also liked the JUSTICE LEAGUE theme song, it was pretty good too.

Rob

Which JL theme? S1/2 or S3/4?

My list (which true to form I will limit to NEW nominees afaik):

Automan
Superman TAS
Greatest American Hero
Classic Superfriends (73)
Secret Adventures of Jules Verne

honorable mention to:

The Lost World
War of the Worlds(S1)
Fantasy Island (original)
The Incredible Hulk
Robotech

Pre or post season 4? ;)

Season 1-3 for sure. I never cared for the faster version that was introduced with season four.

Agreed!

I liked the "rock" version that came was a bonus track on the "Emissary" soundtrack CD.

I can't beleive I forgot:

The Cape

and

Faith of the Heart (Enterprise)

and

GI Joe, esp the "movie" version which counts as it was used when the movie was "mini-seriesed"

Legion of Superheroes (06?)

and

Zorror (90s)

5- Hawaii Five O- While I like the others better, and several in the honorable mention category could, and maybe should, be here instead, this is IMHO the most iconic tv intro theme song ever.

Honorable mentions.

The Muppet Show- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EK-4KEKsLM&feature=related

God I loved watching this show. They were funny as can be.

Deadwood- Until the day I die I'll always wish I could join the lady in the tub in the opening credits. LOL Just love that from behind view you get and the music just really fits the show to a tee.

No offense taken.

Look, generally, if I like the TV show I like the theme that goes with it, because the music plays a role in what I appreciate about the show, and since I'm a TV junkie there are literally hundreds of TV shows i like. I mean, I also like lot of the themes that were posted before my list, so narrowing down to five I had to ask myself "What themes could you listen to over and over again without going insane?" - and out of that list I had to ask "Okay, which five do you want to listen to right now?" I just like the Wonder Woman theme.* I think it's catchy. :)

(*The first two seasons, anyway. The Season 3 version was too disco.)
