Timeless is possibly the best Voyager episode?

I really love this episode. I remember back in the day there was a lot of hype for it in magazines of the time. 100th episode was going be something special.
Yeah it may have the usual time travel cliché of the Reset Button. But it had focus on one of the most underused characters of voyager, Harry Kim and Chakotay.
I really think Garrett Wang did really great in this one, it’s a shame he got side stepped as a character in the series as a whole.
Also it’s maybe my favourite cameo of a tng character. Geordie was a bit of antagonist to our voyager hero’s but wasn’t a dick about it.
And thought it very fitting Geordie was a Captain of a galaxy class starship.

I love "Timeless" as well. Alternate future stories are always tricky to execute because of said RESET BUTTON. But I do like how Harry's guilt gutted him like a cheap hologram. Redemption could only be found in the past. And trust the Voyagers to make the effort to put things right at extreme personal cost.

I felt sorry for the dead crew scattered about the decks. And sorrier for the poor actors who suffered from being coated in God-knows-what to simulate frost and ice. Probably PFAS firefighting foam eating their organs as I type...

Pity Starfleet brass wasn't more receptive to Harry's pleas to find the Voyager.

I punched the air when Captain Braxton mentioned the Takara temporal incursion in "Relativity". Which, actually, I think, predates "Timeless". Harry put things right, not the Relativity. Unless, of course, they discreetly provided Harry with the time chip.

Yes, it is something special. The visual effects alone hold up well today and looked painfully expensive at the time. And getting Geordi on board was neat, too. Good thing that timeline dissolved so he could make all the difference in Picard.

It's a good episode but it has too many of the things I don't like about Voyager ie the reset button, the shortcut home where hopes are dashed. And then "Endgame" basically does this story again. Older Harry allows Garrett to do some acting but then it's like why can't they write like that every week. But then again maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way.

Well I guess that's a fair criticism.
Garrett is used well, and agree he should of had more stories thrown his way.
It has many voyager tropes that many have come to roll their eyes at..
But the tropes are done well in this one imo

Well maybe I should have titled the post timeless is possibly the best voyager episode for me lol. But that doesn't invite any debate or different opinions.
You sometimes see top ten lists and often enough there is episodes that are heavy with more popular characters of Janeway, Seven & The Doctor.
Sometime people include this one, as I don't believe its a black sheep episode or anything.
But it does feel slightly against the grain with it being an Harry Kim episode. Even though its an alternative future timeline thing and really doesn't have any lasting consequences to the series.

I think it's definitely fair as a contender, and it could very well be the best episode in some polls. I'm not even sure what episode I would pick as Voyager's best. I know which one's my favourite, and I feel like there's one that falls in a category of like the "most authentic" Voyager episode or indicative to the Voyager experience, but that one alludes me too (Relativity?).

Nah. I'd put Blink of an Eye and Living Witness as being superior episodes. Probably Equinox I & II as well, though they don't exactly shine a positive light on Janeway, I do appreciate when they show that Starfleet Officers, especially Captain's, are capable of being something other than perfect Berman era characters.

I doubt "Timeless" is the best episode, but it likely cracks the Top Ten or even Top Five. It certainly cracks those for best Harry episode.

I just wish there'd been any clear follow-up for Harry based on the events of the episode, since Harry getting a message from his future self prevents this from being a total Reset Button and lays the groundwork for some later tie-in that I sadly don't recall being in evidence.

Hell, I would have loved to see TPTB do something as ballsy as having the events of this episode end up killing Present Day Kim only for him to be replaced with Future Kim.

They already kind of did that. I'm not sure if that would be repetitive or not.

"TIMELESS" is definitely a great VOT episode. Certainly the best Kim one. While there are some I would put above it, like "DISTANT ORIGIN", "LIVING WITNESS", or "BLINK OF AN EYE", it certainly deserves a top 10 spot easily.

I can still see how some can call it the best of VOY, as well... certainly has enough good in it to make a strong case.

Regarding Geordi's cameo...

It was probably a fairly easy thing, since LeVar Burton directed the episode. ;)

Though strictly speaking, "NOTHING HUMAN" was their 100th produced episode, while "TIMELESS" was their 101st. UPN, and probably Berman in this case too, wanted a bigger episode to use as their 100th celebration. As a marketing ploy, I can't really fault that decision, despite how much I like "NOTHING HUMAN". (It was also Jeri Taylor's final script for the show, and franchise.)

Nah. "Projections," "Death Wish," "Worst Case Scenario," "Living Witness," "Blink of an Eye," and "Pathfinder" have it beat, no name a few. Probably "Prime Factors" and "The Killing Game," too.

I wouldn't say it's the best, but that future Harry Kim should have been the present Harry Kim in Season 6 or 7. That was the best Kim episode of the series.

Now that would have been interesting.
:bolian:

^ Yeah, but it's not remotely comparable, as that Kim was basically the same one as the original, with only a few hours of different memories, whereas the older Kim from "Timeless" was a substantially different guy.

Indeed. If you missed "Deadlock" would you even know that you technically were watching a different Harry?
