I was never on the bleeding edge with
@CaptainWacky and therefore never deserving of a multi-decade thread.
So, rather than start my own, I'll just hijack his.
<cough>
It was the turn of the Millenium; I was 18 (is Lance Hendricksen still with us?). I had been kicked off the StarTrek.com chatrooms and scoured the Internet for an alternative shit-stirring outlet related to Trek. I found this place - January 28th, 2000. Exactly 25 years ago.
My first post was a thread in this forum, titled "Will I be the first rear admiril (sic)". I proceeded to spam the bejesus out of my thread before a moderator by the name of
DEAverification (RIP) kindly told me to shut the fuck up.
I learned more from this BBS than anything at school. Specifically, what happened when you flap your mouth and find yourself completely outclassed? I'd wander into conversations and get my arse handed to me. Thresaurus.com was constantly open.
To everyone that has been around with me before social media and smartphones invaded our space, thank you. Beyond my parents, this place has been the biggest influence on my life. All of you are amazing.
...
Not long after, a diabolical Scotsman of names beyond count emerged. His was a tale of madness and perversion. We found ourselves on opposite sides of the tumultuous BBS wars. I looked at him and thought "nay, thought I am a moderator, my heart is troll!".
So back to me and
Wacky, 25 years ago, we lay our plans. We would play the long game; infiltrate every level of the TrekBBS infrastructure. Quietly. Oh ... how we have waited in the dark, to exact vengeance against those that wronged us.
Anyway Wacky, I think we should touch base on objectives?
