Some of my favorite themes, which I tried to put in order of when they came out...

THE TWILIGHT ZONE (original series)
DOCTOR WHO (All versions, and I always thought it a nice touch that since The Doctor has two hearts, the base of all versions of theme reflect the beating of two hearts.)
STAR TREK (I think few themes are as universally recognized as this one.)
U.F.O.
THE A-TEAM
KNIGHT RIDER
THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO (Believe it or not... I was the first to post this.)
MacGYVER
QUANTUM LEAP (The very beginning, with the voiceover of the woman saying "Theorizing one can time travel...", that never fails to get me a little choked up because this show tugged on so many heartstrings in its 5 year run.)
STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE (First 3 seasons, the visuals give you a real sense of how lonely and on the frontier DS9 is. Season 4 onwards, clearly full of activity, and a great reflection of what is going on in the overall story.)
BABYLON 5 (All seasons, but my favorites are season 3 and 4.)
THE X-FILES
STARGATE SG-1 (Which was taken from the movie.)
CRUSADE (It has an air of mystery to it.)
FARSCAPE (Love them all, but season 3-4 are my favorite themes.)
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (Season 1 without the chanting is my favorite, but all are rather haunting when they add the survivor count.)
STARGATE ATLANTIS (I love how season 2 onward the visual crystallizes the faces of the leads while having the background action on, indicating how the characters are more important than the story.)
SUPERNATURAL (Not a theme, but their title cards are always not only creative, but clue the viewer in to the overall arc of the season.)
AMERICAN HORROR STORY (All seasons are great, with excellent visuals each year. FREAK SHOW, to me, was the most creative and really stands out. ASYLUM... that smiling statue at the end ALWAYS creeps me out. Only one I am not too fond of is ROANOKE.)
GAME OF THRONES (This is not only a great song, but one of the best visual themes of all. It gives you a full sense of how large and historic the world is, all without having to use any dialogue. Stroke of genius.)
WESTWORLD
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY (Definitely see the WESTWORLD influence with the visual part, and the end part with the original theme peppered in... fills me with a sense of glee.)

There are others, but I wanted to get the ball rolling with discussions of these first.

And I think the most memorable theme songs depend on when that particular person was born. Personally, the 70s and 80s are the most memorable ones for me, since those are ones I grew up on. (Born in '79).

I was born in 67 so the 70s and 80s was my time for TV and movie themes.

I still wish we had a big budget Centurions or Galaxy Rangers movie.

Discovery? That just sounds like something you hear in a elevator. :)
The Orville has a good one though.

Probably, the Westernized version of that show is totally different to what it is in its native form.

THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO (Believe it or not... I was the first to post this.)

I like tv theme songs so much I had a tv theme song cover band play at my wedding. They were called "The Greatest American Heros".
Favorites of mine:
Speed Racer
Rescue Rangers
Hawaii 5-0
Macgyver

haha "Lassie's Rescue Rangers" I remember that.

I love this thread!! So many great theme songs from my youth and young adult years. And plenty of cool new stuff to look up now, too. Thanks everyone!

I bought several "TV's Greatest Theme Songs" CDs, because the best show themes evoke the shows and blast you back in time.

It's a long list so I won't bother with YouTube links. In no particular order, then:

Hill Street Blues
Cagney & Lacey
The Rockford Files
Doctor Who (Hartnell, Troughton. Pertwee, T Baker, Smith eras)
Blakes 7
Farscape
Babylon 5 (every season)
The Trials of Rosie O'Neill
thirtysomething
The Twilight Zone (original)
LA Law
Land of the Giants
Six Feet Under
Maude
The Golden Girls
Murder, She Wrote
The Good Life
The Good Fight
Boston Public
ER
Voyager
TNG
The Mary Tyler Moore Show (the later version)
Dad's Army
A Country Practice
Now and Again
The Addams Family
I Love Lucy
The Nanny

...among others.

If you excluded the mini-series nuBSG used the same theme from when it premiered throughout the series. The US adopted the UK theme (where S1 premiered) from S2 onwards.

Out of the B5 themes I would say S5 is my favourite.

As for ST you would think go to 3:25

One of my All-Time faves!
I still think the original Thunderbirds theme is still the best.
Remember Fireball XL-5? The same thing? Craig Ferguson has an awesome cover on his
old show.

There was an early David E. Kelly show called Picket Fences, and that music pops
into my head at the oddest times. Not too weird, considering the tone of the show.

:)
