I'm stepping down. I've been running this place for twenty years, and I always told myself that I'd know when it was time. I started thinking about it seriously a year or so ago, and I figured the twenty-year mark would be a good place to end this.
Age is catching up with me, not to mention health, and to be honest, I'm a bit burned out at this point. It's time for fresh blood; time for someone who will have the enthusiasm to run this place and who will make it a good place for the posters.
This has been a positive experience for me. I learned so much over the years. I've laughed, I've cried, I've shaken my head at times and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. There are so many people to thank. These include Christian and the three tech admins, all of whom took the time and patience to teach me things; more experienced mods from the old days (ditto), my two co-yellows (one of whom, Timby, has had to leave to rebuild his turbulent life) Timby and Spiff (who has been been my back-up for years, so that I could have the occasional day off), and of course, all of my mods, past and present. Plus my online friends who have to put up with me.
It has been enjoyable to interact with so many posters, even some of the trolls - well at least the entertaining ones. I've met some of my mods and some posters and Antony and Christian in person and I've enjoyed every moment. Some people have turned into real friends and many of you already know what a godsend this place is to those with health issues, who are housebound, or during those horrid COVID years when we all were stuck inside.
Thank you all, for the support, even for speaking up when I went the wrong way. I'm sure as heck not perfect, not even close, and I appreciated those who told me that I was wrong.
This is long enough, and I'll conclude with two things. The most important one is that my successor is someone the vast majority of you all know and like, Spaceman Spiff. He's the boss now. I'm sure that the BBS will thrive under his care and trolls, you better be nice to him, because I'll still be around here.
Finally, if I could transport back to 2004 and see what was ahead for me when it came to this board, you know what? I'd do it all over again.
