The Three Musketeers/The Four Musketeers(1973). A Forgotten Gem.

Great, great films.

I imagine that if the Beatles had made the Three Musketeers or Lord of the Rings films they discussed in 1967 and 1968, they'd have turned out much like this, and not just because Dick Lester would have been behind the camera.

Count me as another who prefers thej1948 version. Van Heflin's Athos is an incredible presence on the screen, and as much as I love Chuck Heston, Vincent is the man as the Cardinal. And Gene Kelly's duel with the Musketeers & then the Cardinal's guards, that should be in the dictionary under "swashbuckling".

I absolutely hated these movies, especially the first part. They just felt like they were the same quality as Epic Movie, or something like that.
