The Star Trek Insignia

I call it "insignia", like most others. But there is another insignia that doesn't get nearly as much love and attention as the arrowhead insignia. Yet, it has been around since the beginning, and hidden in plain sight in numerous locations - what I call the Vector.

On all the ship livery:

In the background of the Starfleet Command for all Admirals & Commodores:

And then brought back to prominence as the USS Defiant's uniform insignia in ENT's "In A Mirror, Darkly":

I love it for just those reasons. It is obscure, yet omnipresent.

I always called it the Chevron. I kinda wish it had been used on all subsequent ship classes. Something like it does show up on the USS Raven model.

I think the TOS Enterpise's decals are pretty well documented, so it would not have a problem incorporating similar insignia on the Discovery-era Enterprise.

I suppose you could argue that Enterprise fell under a different command that used the boomerang (and the multicolored shirts).

Did Discovery herself, Shenzhou or any of the other ships of the fleet have that though? I don't recall seeing it. Maybe it was something that was adopted after they were built, pergaps.

While, as noted, the DSC ships used more movie-style markings, there was a period in pre-production where they seemed to be flirting with the TOS version of the registry text and pennants, which made it into a few pieces of key-art and merch, and even partially-completed VFX shots seen in a trailer (and also one fully-completed VFX shot in the actual pilot episode). Unfortunately, the one shot we have where the boomerang might be visible is heavily shadowed.

allegedly the trailer shots were done by CBS's in-house CG department before they switched to an external company. This is according to Pierre Drolet (or was it Doug Drexler?). He has renders on his artstation with the TOS font

I don't know if that would explain the changes, but yeah.

The Magee class has a TOS style pennant, but with no delta or boomerang (screenshot from STO, but it's there on the show model too)

which made it into a few pieces of key-art and merch,
the 3D renders of the Cardenas Class model made by Eaglemoss also still have the Font, which is why the physical model does.
