How do you even switch households in the same neighborhood?

Or get your created sims/households to show up in the newly created neighborhoods?

In neighbourhood view click on the button with ... , then choose edit town/neighbourhood...
You can then switch families...

To: Drone36929 - Go into the options and uncheck Story Progression to stop the neighborhood continueing while you're playing other Sims. Also, if you don't want to turn off Aging, you can extend the lifetime of Sims up to 190 days.

I got to play this game quite a bit this weekend. I had fun, especially visiting the differnet locations, and I really liked the Careers. I had a problem with a moodlet "Disgusted" that wouldn't go away but I emptied the inventory and in a stack of 6 cakes I had in there, one was bad, but the stack did not show that it was bad, but excellent quality. That annoyed me for a while.

My only real grief is the Sims themselves. I could make a HOT Sim in the Sims 2 but the people in Sims 3 are just average. I'm not talking about the clothing, even though there is less sexy clothes there, but the appearance. It's something I can't put my finger on. I've looked on several fanmade Sims 3 sites and they're all plain too. The only different Sim I liked was a witch.

Small tip:
If you buy a bike or car, put it in the sim's inventory, then sell the bikerack/parkingspace...
They will always use it when the distance is too long, because they can't park it at home...

And the Sims bodies/faces are much rounder and puffier then in The Sims 2...

But i like it, looks great too...

^Those graphics do look more 3-D than Sims2.

I'm going to treat myself to this on payday :techman:

Yes, the button with the three dots (...) opens up the menu options from which you can select Save, Save & Exit, Edit Town, etc. When you choose Edit Town, you'll see an icon that says Switch Households (a big house and a small house). You'll get a confirmation message (Save, Cancel, Continue?). Then from the neighborhood, click on the household you'd like to play.

Rincewiend, thanks for sharing photos of your sims. However, when I clicked on the links, I also saw pics of women kissing each other and a video of one fondling herself. Just to warn you guys, be careful when you read this thread when you're at work.

Stiletto, thanks for the tips. I'll try shutting off the Story Progression feature. I haven't tried adjusting my sims' lifespans (the default is 90 days, I believe). I really don't mind if the sims have 19 or 90 days to live. It just annoys me to hell when the other sim households get older and move on when I haven't had a chance to play them yet. This hopefully will solve that problem.

In response to your second question: all the sims you've created (including some pre-made families) are saved in the Library, which has the pictures of households (go to Neighborhood View). By default, you cannot delete these sims from the Library, but you can "Move Copies" of them to an empty or even occupied residential lot (merge them with other families). Once you've done that, you have the option of Evicting or Splitting Up the sim household. When you do that, the current household appears on the Clipboard on the left side of the screen, which is a temporary storage location. Only then can you delete the household (or move it to a different house). Hope this helps.

I've been playing this game for over a week now, and apart from the missing features/objects of TS2 that people already mentioned, I'm missing the old "boolprop" cheat most of all. In TS2 that cheat puts the player in an almost God Mode. I miss the Sim Modder, which can do a lot more sim modifications. I miss the Servo robot that can be made part of the household. I miss turning my sims into vampires. You know, for a $49 game, you'd think EA Games would give you a lot more flexibility and fun factor.

That's what the future $30 expansion packs are for! :)

It's probably not a good sign that I've already lost interest in this game after only owning it for a week.

Well I got it, and while there are certainly some things about it which I do like - the 'live world' aspect is quite fun, I like being able to wander down the street and meet my neighbours, in general I find the game quite cumbersome, unintuitive, and lacking a great deal of The Sims 2's 'quirky' aspect, which is kind of what made it fun. This seems more like: People Simulation. Serious business.
I hope I warm to the differences, I have after all only beign playing it a short while, but I'm very suspicious I may be reverting to 2 at some point.

Wow, I guess I'm not alone. When I first played TS2 years ago,I though I was in gaming heaven. Well, at least I thoght it was light-years better than the original. Though Sims 3 isn't terrible, it doesn't quite measure up to its predecessor.

I hope you people at EA Games are reading this thread. Take some hints! Better make the first expansion have some redeeming qualities/features.

Benn playing for a bit, and I must say I *much* prefer the new object customization method. Here's hoping the Sims 3 communities will start producing more object models (furniture, lighting, etc.) than are available in-game; I have a preference for Italian Modern, myself. ;)

Since some of the Sims sites have game mods and hacks up, I've been trying them out. These two sites have some interesting ones: ModTheSims and More Awesome Than You!

Just a question guys, are the recommended system requirements 100% necessary?

I've heard some people say they weren't but I just wanted to know if anyone here has played it without the requirements. My video card and processor are the things on my computer that don't meet the requirements.

^Get a new computer.:p

Never mind my last computer wouldn't start up on the first 10 tries, or froze a lot, if it wasn't able to play the sims i would have chucked it on that alone.

I have read on TSR that people are able to play the game with minimum requirements, but if you can't even play the sims it might be time for a change...of course i and my daughter love the game so we have our priorities set a little differently then others.

I believe EA has made it very, very difficult for third parties to make objects. They want you to buy THEIR stuff off the site and buy the Stuff Packs.

Now *that* sucks; the buyable stuff I've seen so far from the EA website is....not that good. :sigh:
