THE ORVILLE S2, E14: "THE ROAD NOT TAKEN"

I still think their is a good chance the show might become a Hulu show if it's not picked up by Fox. Even now I think their only real hit has been "Handmaid's Tale" so I could see Disney seeing the appeal of putting someone on that has some strong cult appeal.

Fox would be idiotic to cancel Orville now. Creatively, the show is terrific. MacFarlane shocked me with how well he can write sci-fi.

I'd be pretty mad if they cancel it.

My mouth dropped when "The Lieutenant" was revealed. I had no idea Halston was making an appearance (they put her credit at the end). I thought it would have been Bortus or Dann.

Without dissecting the story especially as I missed a bit of the beginning and just taking in the spectacle and scope of it all I was impressed. I've often accused Orville of being decent but without ever really taking it to the next gear but last night showed they can. IF it is the end, they at least went out with a bang. I also liked how they nicely tied in elements from throughout the season.

I sure hope it's not the end!!!!!!!!

Lots of fun - a little Timeless-ish, a little DS9 mirror episode-ish, and lots of Adrianne's boobs. I love Adrianne's boobs.
:D
Yea, noticed the boobs.
Gotta wonder how someone who is obviously underweight has boobs?
Push up bra or silicone ( or saline or whatever they are making breast implants out of)

I was kind of predicting it. I think I even mentioned it last week. One thing I did like also that hasn't been mentioned is we got another "Open this jar of pickles" line only it wasn't for Allura this time. I also laughed it Ed's line about not swimming without a shirt until 20. I can so relate as someone who has been fat most of my life. I will never go swimming either without wearing a shirt.

I thought last nights finale was amazing It certainly suprised me how the season 2 finale was wrapped up. Bravo Seth Macfarlaine and the Orville cast for a wonderuful season 2.Please Fox tv let us get a season 3!

I like the characters enough to have enjoyed the episode in the moment but I’ll brook no attempt to argue The Orville is at the science part of science fiction than DSC,

That's okay, because it's sure as hell better at the "entertaining" part of science fiction than DSC.

Yes, really, and thanks for having me.
Glad you enjoyed it (sincerely). I liked it enough to watch it all once--just not nearly enough to rewatch it immediately (unlike the minimum double viewings of DSC episodes per week for me). Different strokes and all that.

Agreed. Different strokes.

Joel McNeely has posted about his score for the series finale (that's what I'm calling it until there's an official announcement):

Yes it was like a fan film script with a great budget and VFX were the star of the show this week. The music had a huge TSFS vibe to me. Kaylon are not very good marksmen either for robots.......

Yeah, I totally felt that way myself about the music... early ST films for sure

They lost me four times:

  1. Beta-whatthefuck fixes everything.
  2. Let's go in the event horizon, cause there's nothing dangerous about why light can't escape.
  3. Seven miles of pressure differential going down in a couple of minutes, no problem!
  4. We can fly a crashed ship back up seven miles in a couple of minutes - still no pressure problems - and across the galaxy.
Hardly exhaustive - everyone can add to the list.

What is "quantum" stuff on Orville. We have the Quantum drive...now they mentioned that the Kaylon's computer system (I think) runs some kind of Quantum system.

I was pleasantly shocked too... but she seemed pretty cold... harder than not-Alara. The thing is...she was ALSO feeling the gravity effects in this timeline too. How come not-ALara never experienced it?

it was a fun episode...but felt like a mid-season part 2 episode rather than some kind of finale.... especially with everything reset to "normal"...

And I missed the post but agree that I wish Isaac's plotline had been resolved....but the way things are shaping up with Bortus, the Orville will feel like the ship for people who have been cut-off from their people.

I was expecting Dann to be the one running the resistance. Mostly because it would be funny to see him as some dark and gritty leader as opposed to being a mellow weirdo. Allara was a nice surprise though.

Kelly looked great. Outfit was obviously working, but the hair style on both her and young Kelly was a big improvement as well. It was fine when we didn't see other options, but 'old Kelly' has way more of a plain, flat style going on, and it's a waste.

So it seems fairly clear that there is one timeline on this show, and not alternate universes. Finn's disappearance all but confirms that.
^^^
You could take it either way - "The Orville" has to focus on one tiimeline - so that's the one the audience sees. Dr. Finn could have just been shunted to another timeline where the memory wipe still failed; Kelly has a reaction to the injections and dies, etc....but we (the audience) don't get to see it. ;)
