The National Rugby League - The Finals Thread

So this time next week, the finals will start, but first to the final round of games. Already 7 of the top 8 teams have been decided, with the winner of Newcastle and Penrith also being in the finals.

With tonight's games, I'm tipping the Eels and Bulldogs. I feel sorry for the Dragons fans as their team has been awesome all year, but really slipped over the past few weeks.

Other games this weekend, I've tipped Manly to beat Gold Coast, Cronulla to beat South Sydney, Storm to beat the Warriors, Broncos to beat the Raiders, Newcastle to beat Penrith and finally Cowboys to beat the Roosters.

Thoughts?

Still feeling sorry for Dragon's fans?

My biggest hope is that your tipping so far will continue in that same fashion and teh Raiders will end the season with a win.

Not sure who I want to win this years comp. The dramaticist in me would like to see the Eels or even Manly win just because they looked gone not too long ago. However, given the quality the Dragons and Bulldogs have produced throughout the season I'm leaning towards them as the ones I think deserve to win.

My tips sucked like they have most of the year. I'm just happy that the Eels are there ... and I'd love to see the Raiders win.

The Dragons were simply awesome last night.

Didn't catch or follow any of the games last night as I was at Suncorp watching the Wallabies finally get their act together.

Actually that's a lie there were a pair of NZers sitting behind me and they were bitching about the lack of tries and going on about they rather go watch the Warriors. They then checked the score and commented the Warriors were up by 20, which brought about questions from some of the people around and they were adamant about it that I in fact believed them like several other spectators. Alas it was not true (not a Storm fan especially as they are the Raiders' boogie team).

Sharks lost again I see...can't help but feel a bit sorry for them this year. Manly spanked the Titans. Almost makes me wonder if we could see 5,6,7,8 winning in the first week of the final (a bit of a stretch I know). That hasn't happened before, I basing that on a vague memory that when the Warriors beat the Storm last year they were the first 8th placed team to beat the 1st placed team. This years finals are shaping to be the one of the most interesting in years.

I won't say what I think of the rah rah code. Haven't watched a full game of rugby union for a long time.

It will be an interesting finals. Nothing unexpected happened yesterday. The Broncos won against the Raiders (setting up a local derby - go the Titans). The Knights were awesome. Saw some Penrith supporters when I was doing some shopping. The ground is very close to where I live in Newcastle.

And I'm happy that the Roosters got the wooden spoon!!

The Dally Ms are on tomorrow night.

Hindmarsh will be back for the Eels, as he was one player they missed on Friday night.

Hopefully one day soon the Raiders will discover the secret to win away from home and I can stop saying "there's always next year".

Bump. So the first final has been played and Manly got the butt kicked by Melbourne 40 to 12. It seems the Manly supporter here has ben very quiet. Been watching Buffy all night.

Not a Storm fan so the result wasn't one I wanted to see...particularly with Slater scoring 4, I quite dislike him.

Tonight I'm hoping for a Titans and a Bulldogs victory. Titans because Broncos are one of the teams I hate. Bulldogs, well a few years ago they would be in the group with Broncos but this year they have been good and I'm no longer a fairly big fan of the Knights as I were back in the day.

Tomorrow...tough pick, I don't mind the Eels and having them win to continue their finals run would be fun...actually if the Broncos lose tonight I'll definitely go for the Eels to win so that the Broncos get booted from the finals. If that doesn't happen it won't really matter to me who wins, though I hope Sailor gets a try or two...hated him when he was with the Broncos and the Reds/Tahs but since his drug ban hiatus I've found myself liking him. It seemed to have given him the wake up call that was needed.

Currently watching the Titans - Broncos game. Hoping that the Titans win ... as they score in the 72min. Only 2 points after the convertion, which has just happened. Missed most of the first half, as I was on the phone, and the Broncos had 20 point lead.

With the second game to start soon, I want the Knights to win. Plus I hate the Bulldogs.

And Taylor just scores. :( Rogers is still down.

Boo...Broncos won.

Well, I'll probably still go for the Eels just to see if they can go a step (or two) further in the finals.

Half time and the Dogs are up by 12. Only see the Dogs first try, which was pretty and their third. Feel a bit sorry for the Knights as injuries have hit them early.

It's safe to say with 4 minutes left that the Bulldogs have won, and the Knights are out. The Bulldogs were far the better team.

Looking forward to tomorrow's match.

^ LOL.

Only 4 hours until the game.

So it is half time and the Eels are leading 12 to 8. The Eels defence was awesome during the first 20 minutes. They had all the ball during first half. Now another 40 minutes to go. I think the Eels can still win it.

Ha! My brother just commented that Eric Grothe Jr was a dirty man and he takes an intercept and scores a try.

When Eric scored I jumped off my bed and raised my fist and shouted yes!!

Been very happy with the Eels defence. 6 minutes left.

And it's now 19 to 12, with a Burt field goal. And the Dragons kick the ball out on the full

AND MANLY ARE ALMOST GONE!!!!

Wow, if that's a try by Hayne...damn that's good.

Dragon fans are flocking out of the ground now.

^ Nope, it was Hayne.

It was a good match. A bit sloppy in the first half but great tries by both sides.
