The MOST Disliked Episode of VOYAGER - Season Five...

Farscape One

Admiral
Admiral
This is a twist on a game that is played here, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am very curious to see the results.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, wait six hours and leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

I will start season 5 by taking "COURSE: OBLIVION" off this list. This was an excellent followup to "DEMON"... it's one of the rare cases where the sequel is better than the original.

The thing that stood out the most to me was the ending. It literally was the title of the episode. It was surprisingly dark, and extremely sad. Very strong performances all around... kind of a full circle moment when the last man standing was Kim, who was the first one to be copied. I loved Nick Sagan penned and co-penned episodes from this season. I really wish he had stayed. I wonder why he left.

"Drone" is another of the great Seven episodes. Could have easily felt like just an "I, Borg" copy, and doesn't.

Removing Equinox. I remember when it aired, it being the most excited I'd been about Voyager for quite a while.

11:59. Such an unusual episode for Trek, as the main characters are nothing more than background characters to the story, as most of the episode is handled by Janeway's ancestor.

Funny thing with Season 5 on a whole, I still don't really consider Dark Frontier as part of Season 5, since in my area the local TV station held it back until Season 6. And it's the only episode that I'm aware of that has 3 different cuts, as there's the UPN 2-hour cut, then there's the syndicated 2-hour cut (which I still have on VHS---one of the main cuts is the scene where Janeway scolds Torres for accessing Seven's files) and then there's the 2-part syndicated cut that cuts the episode up into 2 seperate episodes.

Is it me or is Voyager moving a lot faster than DS9 did?
It's not just you. ;) Definitely moving faster.

My vote goes to "Bride of Chaotica!" I loved the "Captain Proton" adventures -- what a wonderful homage to the old pulp sf films! And Janeway was hilariously awesome as Queen Arachnia. "I don't know how to tell you this..." (shoots Chaotica with ray gun) "but the wedding's off!"

I will remove "THINK TANK" next.

They were a unique kind of villain, one I really wish we saw again. And the dilemma for Seven, going off to really push herself to expand her abilities, at least what was presented at first, was nice. Great strategizing and tactical play throughout the episode. It was a joy to watch, and always a rewatch when it airs.

Relativity. One of the show's more fun time travel outings, and it was neat seeing Braxton make his return.

WARHEAD: I like most episodes that give Picardo more than a few lines and this was an interesting idea: How to outsmart a smart bomb.

Removing Night. It's a good episode, showing the psychological state of the ship under stress of isolation, one of the only episodes that actually does this when it seems it frankly should have been a HUGE part of the premise.

Looks like this time around, all the obvious 'worst' episodes are getting knocked off on 'So bad it's good' appeal and the super-mediocre forgettable episodes are winning.

I'll plunk for "Bliss." It's true that the crew succumbs too quickly to the lure of the space-beast, with its offer of a too-perfect return to Alpha, but since that's acknowledged by the script it's actually part of the plot -- why are they so trusting? Interesting to see what they find most desirable. And I've always found Seven and Naomi a winning team.

I'll save Extreme Risk. Even though the execution is not as good as I would like, I appreciate that they really tried to show some consequences for B'Elanna after learning most her friends in the Alpha Quadrant were gone.

I'll save Latent Image... just rewatched that one a few days ago and also like Janeway here, plus it was an interesting ep for the Doc and the interaction between Seven & Janeway (and that subtlety between Janeway and Tuvok towards the end as well) was done well imo

I am saving SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME: The episode is saved from mediocrity by Picardo and a good performance by Jeri Ryan as well.

There are many things wrong with "Dark Frontier" and it's a major culprit in Voyager's defanging of the Borg, but there's also inherent fun in the big-two-hour-episode thing.

I dunno, I guess it also has that hot rotating almost-naked hologram guy.

Nothing Human. A good examination of the merits of using ethically questionable research in the name of saving lives, only slightly let down by the Doctor coming off a little too moralizing in the last scene.
