The Imperial Palace Ship...

it's a ring ship. I like ring ships, if my name isn't a clue.
it almost looks like there's an inside-out colony inside the ring structure, like some kind of O'Neill type colony, repleat with its own sun (does that thing turn off half of the day?) Ridges along the back are very Disney-20,000 Leagues. I would have thrown in a bunch of needless girder work and glass to let it be full-blown USS Cygnus from the black hole.

Discovery writers room:

WRITER 1. Lets make something epic like Death Star - but not Death Star obviously, because copyright.

WRITER 2. Death Cube!

WRITER 3. The Borg already have it...

WRITER 2. Death Pyramid!

WRITER 3. Stargate...

WRITER 2. Errr... Death Cylinder maybe?

WRITER 1. No. We make hybrid of Connie, Vulcan cruiser, Romulan Warbird and put star in the middle! I mean, star, literally.

"Okay, that's ridiculously over the top."

I do not disagree with that assessment, but I think it’s “ridiculously over the top” in a good way. It’s certainly unlike anything we’ve seen before in Trek, which I appreciate. I’m glad the creative team feels like they can experiment. And it’s nice to actually see a city ship in Trek canon as that’s not something we really ever see in the franchise (The Voth being the obvious exception).

Allow of ppl are comparing it to a TNG Romulan Warbird, but I’m wondering if it’s not a redesigned/retrofitted Planet Killer. Cuz I totally get that vibe.

I’d love to get the specs and size comparison of this thing, it’s got to be at least the size of Earth Spacedock.

You got to wonder are those pleasure gardens? Food production? Are they raising free-range Kelpian in the ring structure? And who lives there? It seems to me that’s not just a Palace but a warp capable Capital City and administration center.

I need specs!!

Here is a close up shot of what the surface of the ring structure looks like.

I dig it. I was thinking that maybe that mini star is a big and exposed fusion reactor. Maybe the ring is lined on the inside some kind of fancy gravitational emitters that keep the pressure on the star high enough for the fusion reaction of the tiny star. I think it's more for show than something functional, given it's the Terran Empire. Or maybe it can focus energy and shoot a particle beam or something anime-y.

In fact, it needs like a skull and crossbones carved on the bow or something.

There is a shot of the Discovery flying towards it in the trailer for the next episode, and there will probably be more shots in the episode itself, might give a better perspective of the actual size of it.

Plus you can see the shuttle bay and it appears to be about the same size as the Discovery's. last episode

My guess would be a few KM long.

The function of the carry-along star is obvious now: to make the Emperor blink at a crucial moment.

What I don't quite get is what the Emperor was doing when opening that porthole cover. Did she wish to get blinded, perhaps in order to give her rather thick almost-adoptive-daughter the needed clue?

Also, funny that her quarters would be so far down below that she gets to see the star. It would seem more natural for her to live in the upper superstructure, now wouldn't it?

To me it looks like the Terran Empire somehow captured the Doomsday Machine, ripped its guts out, and built a new ship around it.

If this is true, the purpose of the mini-sun is to kill planets dead.

Well, I loved it really, because it's so silly and over the top. I'm one of those fans that doesn't have issues with the Mirror Universe, and likes seeing it. I'm aware it's batshitcrazy, but it's also entertaining for me. Though, Disco has really upped the WTF levels of the MU quite a lot.

Giant gaudy Space-Murder-Cruise Ship.

Makes sense to me for this iteration of MU humans.
