The High Republic: A more civilized age...

I know but I see the novels as the main arc of the story. The rest are just tie ins. From what I’ve read of the series so far, the novels and the YA ones are all you need. The comics have been forgettable. They’re just good to put some images onto things.
Have to disagree, here -- the comics show us some massive events that the novels don't even cover (and to which they reference quite frequently in parallel), such as the Jedi/Hutt-alliance against the Drengir, the capture of the Great Progenitor (which is likely going to have consequences in Phase III), and the current arc, which
depicts the unleashing of the Great Leveler and the hunt for Lourna Dee, following the events of the Tempest Runner audio drama.

Haven’t tried the audio play yet. From reading The Fallen Star, that could be a interesting one.
Yeah, Tempest Runner is very well done, in the same vein as Cavan Scott's Dooku: Jedi Lost audio drama. Some big stuff takes place in it, and it greatly humanizes Lourna Dee on a level not even the novels have achieved.

A whole bunch of new The High Republic stuff was revealed yesterday.
  • Art of the High Republic by Kristin Baver - Pretty self explanatory, a new behind the scenes book that includes interviews with High Republic creators and exclusive concept art.
  • The Path of Deceit by Tessa Gratton & Justine Ireland - YA novel
  • Quest for the Hidden City by George Mann - Middle Grade novel
  • Convergence by Zoraida Cordova - Adult novel
  • Quest of the Jedi - Dark Horse comic written by Claudia Gray
  • ? - Original graphic novel from Dark Horse written by Daniel Jose Older
  • ? - Porter Engle comic from Marvel by Charles Soule
  • Cavan Scott will be writing the ongoing High Republic comic for Marvel when it comes back in October. I think this was already announced, but I'm not sure.

I actually just started listening to the audiobook of Light of the Jedi the other day, my first foray into the High Republic. I'd meant to get into it when it first started but I did most of my reading on my work commutes, which wasn't a thing at the time. Now I've got a new position and a commute again, and so I've started back in on my reading. So far I'm enjoying it a lot. I still think they could have gone back a bit farther into the past than they did but it's still cool.

The next phase of High Republic is going even further back (by at least a century, IIRC) so it seems they plan on going the opposite way round to what the EU did (which was starting 4-5 millennia ago and work their way back to the PT), which honestly is the smarter option just in terms of practicality. Hopefully if nothing else it'll mean the art design for the various eras will flow into each other more naturally, unlike the jarring switch between TotJ & KotOR.

I really enjoyed Light of the Jedi but I’m struggling with The Rising Storm. I’m about 150 pages in and it’s not engaging me at all. It’s just slow. I hope the pace picks up.

A force user character called the mother? That sounds familar. :)
I assume we will go back. They are just going back to the past to give some characters some context. Mainly for Ro.
Once that is done they will go back for the final act.

I spose Ro's family grey skin as originally described has some hue.
That's just the art style. Typically true greys (especially dark greys) don't register very well, so often what you'll find artists using instead is very low saturation purples, greens or oranges to almost subconsciously imply ambient light bounce from other objects and sources.

Loden Greatstar, Bell Zetifer, Ember, and Estala Maru from the High Republic books will be making their first on screen appearances in upcoming episodes of Young Jedi Adventures, and the episode featuring Master Maru will also see the characters visiting Starlight Beacon.
I'd been expecting we'd see characters from The High Republic show up in one of the shows or movies at some point, so I'm not surprised this is happening. Since YJA is the only movie or show that takes place at a time those characters could appear, I'm too surprised that's where it's happening.
I haven't seen any of YJA yet, but this just might be enough to get me to check it out.

Hi this is close to my first hearing about these stories. Is there a good starting point for a newcomer — for an older reader? What’s the best of these?

Try Light of the Jedi. That’s the first book.
The series is split into three phase that are similar to how the movies were presented. Phase being like the originals, phase 2 being like the prequels being set 200 years in the past and phase 3 being set shortly after phase 1.
Personally I have found phase 2 the best so far. The story was tighter and had less characters making it easier to follow.

Is The High Republic ending with Phase III? I thought I saw a reference to stuff that's coming out now being the beginning of the final Phase.
