The Doctor Who primer

There's something I've been wondering about lately. Is there a specific reason why they rarely ever show more of the TARDIS than just the control room? It just seems strange that it's this whole big ship, but we rarely see more of it than just that one room, especially compared to shows like the Star Treks, or Farscape where we saw practically every inch of the ships on a regular basis.

It's often just a jumping off point for the adventure.

Star Trek and Farscape saved money by doing most of the filming on their expensive standing starship sets instead of going out on location, while Doctor Who saves money by shooting on location instead of having expensive standing starship sets.

True. I always wanted to see more (a lot!) of the ship’s extensive interior beyond the glimpses we occasionally got over the decades, but I can understand the thinking — it would be too easy to start making it about exploring the TARDIS, rather than using it to explore space and time.
