How did this fly under the radar like that? Never heard of it before. It looks amazing!!

They changed the title right before the marketing push started a few weeks ago, so it's possible you have heard it mentioned somewhere.

Well-timed with the recent explosion in mainstream discussion concerning AI.

Hadn't heard of this either. Looks good!

I believe it was called 'True Love'.

ETA: Yeah, it was: https://collider.com/gareth-edwards-true-love-new-title-the-creator/

Odd title but ok. The Creator sounds more compatible with the content.

Trailer is a bit too generic for my liking. Curious but not excited.

You mean like how basically ALL trailers these days are generic? Made to follow certain beats people are drawn to?
Remember, directors and creators of movies DON'T make the trailers. There's companies that make them for studios. They know what people want in trailers to grab their attention. Doesn't always work, but still.

Oh, I know. But it isn't the trailer but the design language of the robots, the AI storyline, the war, etc. The trailer is fine for what it's meant to do; generate discussion. But, the actual world? No, limited interest.

I like Gareth Edwards, but I’m really tired of AI-rises-to-kill-us-all stories — both because I think that’s silly, and because now that we may be on the cusp of the beginnings of actual AI, we shouldn’t be whipping up this kind of hysteria.

Looks really good, has a killer cast, and I love Gareth Edwards' work. Here's hoping is both as good as it looks!

Edwards also directed the first Monsterverse Godzilla movie.
I really enjoyed both Rogue One and Godzilla, and the trailer definitely got me interested. I'm not sure if it's a absolute must see yet, I would like to see more.

Good point. Still, the film seems interesting enough for at least a getaway matinee.

I understand little about AI. I wished there were more movies showing AI as being chill and developed in positive ways. Not that they would be perfect but possibly more collaborative/rational than the human race.

At this point, with so many of the big studio genre movies being parts of franchises or adaptions, I'm willing to give any one that is completely original at least a chance. I love a lot of the franchises, but it's still nice to get a bit more variety from time to time.

It looks to me like there’s more to it than that. We get glimpses of the robots playing sports and living ordinary lives.
