The bridge of the USS Galaxy

I like the second tweak, with the conn in the middle of ops and tactical. The empty space could be used for the holo-communicator is a good suggestion.

one helmsperson, not two (wrap-around console to take care of both needs: helm/op's by one person at-once.)
defiant-style over-ride consoles for the captain.
reduce general size of the bridge by one third to half.

While I like CaptainSerek's original, I like the second tweak most. That said, some captain's consoles a la Defiant might not hurt.

Is there any reason why Tactical officer can't have a chair? That would take care of one of the issues. Another possibility would be to put Tactical next to the captain, similar to the Hathaway (although that was ops.)

nx-1701-g, you have the conn officer boxed in as well as making the steps a tad dangerous. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I was wondering what you could fill all that open space with, and I started thinking about the 1701-D bridge concepts that Andrew Probert drew up. Many of those had a large couch/seating area that might work, if you don't think it's too silly.

If not extra seats and consoles, how about an ops table as found on the Defiant and the NX-01? Plenty of room there.

I'm with Mr. Nguyen. An MSD "pool table" would be a good idea & a chair or two around it for the Chief Engineer / Assistant Engineer or Tactical / Op's Officer, et al. But reduce the bridge itself by half & keep tactical at the side marked "X.O." Add the Defiant-style override consoles next to the Captain & add a single-person position wrap-around Helm / Flight-Op's console. The blank areas at front & back should be Starfleet Marine-dedicated lockers / command decks. Perhaps j-tubes / escape crawlspaces or additional escape pods, transporter rooms, or secondary docking-collar locations. Aft torpedo / phaser or sensor emplacements? Additional computers or autonomous safety containment-field or "batmobile armor" generators?

All that wasted space is ridiculous.

The design is fine, but you gotta have something in there. There is no way they'd have that much dead space in the middle of the bridge. I just don't understand the thinking there.

Why have the Captain so isolated?

What about a big couch, like Proberts original design for the D bridge? :D

Having said that, I think it could be your proportions. Scale down the size of the bridge or scale up the chairs. I'm pretty sure you could park a shuttlecraft in that back area at the moment.
