And , what is sheldon's deal with babylon 5 .

The show is overrated by the "fanboys". I've yet to figure out why it's held in such high regard as it has poor writing and far too many weak actors. Perhaps Sheldon ( or the writers) thinks so as well. Being prickly and opinionated, he might enjoy going against the grain.

Sheldon SHOULD like very niche SF shows/things. It makes him even more marginalized. Very similar to his "STV is much better than ST:TMP" rant from very early on. Besides the fact that the logic/writing was COMPLETELY WRONG on that(he said STV beats TMP is almost every capacity - music, SFX, set design" - sorry but wrong, wrong, WRONG, WRONG and WROOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!), it would have made more sense to have Sheldon SUPPORTING TMP(a film Joe Sixpack hates)against, say, the more populist STIV(a film mundanes really liked back in the day).

It was just very "off".

Actually it fits the SF nerd stereotype perfectly.. just browse this board and see how vicious sometimes people defend "their" show or their franchise against another one when comparisons are made.

People are opinionated and sometimes fans are not very tolerant of others especially when it comes to merits of their choice of show/franchise. Sheldon just dislikes B5 intensely.. it's just a fact. Personally i don't know any SF fan who doesn't like B5 but on the other hand i've encounted several who just hate Farscape for example (personally i've never gotten into the show).

As to the episode.. yes, they have moved heavily into the "standard" relationship/funny situations sitcom fare.. heavily hinting at a get back together between Leonard and Penny, the usual misunderstandings that lead to funny scenes etc.

I too wish they'd return to the more geeky/science humor but it's unlikely since that stuff bores mainstream audiences and TBBT has become mainstream so it adapted.

One can like it or not.. personally i have seen the entire show up to this date and unless it takes a huge quality dive like Heroes i'll probably watch it until it ends.

I once knew a very partisan Star Trek fan who would have rather died than say anything nice about B5 . . . .

I don't know if it's really the "like" or "dislike" that's off. I think it's the whole writers' approach to nerdism in general.

It's like they only tell half the joke. Whenever referencing any of the more obscure aspects of sci-fi, video games, science, etc, there is a tendency to only touch on the fluff. It's like the script states: Insert Stargate reference here. So someone goes to the SG1 Wiki page randomly picks out a paragraph and tries to riff on it. It is clear he or she is oblivious to the context.

This seems to be even more problematic in their geeky science gags. I know very little about physics et all, but I do know they miss the mark completely a lot of the time.

And Sheldon's TMP rant was almost verbatim that I saw from a "geek" celb once (Kevin Smith maybe?). It's like the writer saw that and said, "go with it."

TBBG is a show written about nerds and not for nerds. I still find it funny, but the looking glass into the realm of geekdom it is advertised as it is not.

I dunno about that. I'm a pretty big Geek and I can see myself and my friends reflected in the characters. Yes its geekdom writ large, but thats usually how sitcoms work. It doen''t matter if the focus is on cops, geeks, doctors or regular joes.

The physics jokes seem to be spot on, they get my boyfriend who is going for a PhD in Physics laughing his ass off at things that I didn't even realize were supposed to be jokes. His colleagues as well...in fact many times they don't even care if it is an actual joke with a real punchline, they just geek out over the fact that someone on television talks about all the equationy Physics stuff they do. For example when the chalkboard is in the living room my boyfriend will pause the show to read the equations on it and go into a discussion of what they mean and changes he would make, etc. It's scary.

I think she acts as a catalyst for Penny and Leonard to get back together. It's been going on for a few episodes now when the writers dropped "subtle" hints that Penny still has feelings for Leonard.

Something will happen and they'll get back together.. most likely in the season finale i guess though i could stand Priya being around for a few episodes.. she is hot!
