(Actually, it's still winter here in Canada, and will be for at least another month. But since most of Season 34 will be shown during the spring, that's the reason for the thread title. ;))

Anyway, Season 34 starts on Wednesday, March 8. It takes place in Fiji, and features returning players who were, in some way, considered "game changers". That could mean something they did, something they said, how they interacted with their fellow tribe mates, how they strategized, and so on.

There will be a couple of new twists this time as well. The method of resolving ties has been changed, and the immunity idols may show up anywhere - possibly hidden at the Tribal Council site!

You know I'll be watching. Either when it airs, or the next Thursday morning.

Very interested in new tiebreaker method. Hopefully they increase the incentive to avoid ties. People feared the rocks for 20+ straight seasons and now we're constantly seeing them.

My biggest point of curiosity now is how Sandra does. Her game seems to be just make relationships, cause no ripples when she doesn't have to, deflect the attention to somebody else whenever her name comes up, and generally take advantage of the fact nobody is afraid of her. I don't know if that game can possibly work this time as her sole distinction as double winner will give her nowhere to hide.
 
I'm curious as to how Caleb will do. But of course I'm rooting for either Malcolm, Tai, or Debbie.
 
I wonder if the Hantz family has been permanently banned from CBS. All Hantzes not named Russell have been ejected for violence from voting based game shows.

I won't miss them.

In one of the interviews Probst did, he said they tried to get Greg to come back (the guy with the coconut shell phone in Season 1). Sadly, he wanted to but couldn't take time away from his job. It would have been such a hoot to see him play again.

Please tell me they're not going to kill a goat next week... :(
 
I love Survivor, but deliberately chose not to watch Season 33 because I wanted to watch the fifth season of Arrow LIVE. However, with "returning player" seasons being my favorite thing that the show has done, and with so many players I've rooted for/gotten attached to from previous seasons being asked back, there really wasn't any choice for me as far as watching the season in "first-run" was concerned, so my 'game-plan' going forward is to watch Survivor LIVE and Arrow on "delay".

As far as last night's premiere is concerned, I thought it was a really strong pair of episodes that set up the premise/theme of certain players being "game changers" and certain other things coming into play as far as shaping the game in new ways, from the Secret Advantage (which I didn't even realize had been found by my fellow Utahn Sierra Dawn Thomas until after everybody got to their camps and I saw her name pop up) to the new rules for Tribal Council tiebreakers to the way you had some battle lines quickly being drawn between Ozzy and Cirie (although what in the heck was up with her conversation with Tai; it seemed like he was [intentionally or otherwise] "stirring the pot", but then things never went anywhere with what they were talking about) on Nuku to the feud between Sandra and Tony on Mana.

Seeing Mana lose both challenges wasn't much of a surprise given that the way the episode was edited pretty much telegraphed it by spending way more time with that tribe than over on Nuku, but I did like that we ended up with two blindsides right out of the gate (something I can't personally recall having happened before on Survivor). I'm also intrigued by what's supposed to be happening next week,
with a Tribe switch only a week into the game and the first seasonal appearance of the "Hidden Immunity Idols can be anywhere" concept, and am personally hoping that the switcheroo will end up creating more of a balance in terms of players I like not all ending up on a single tribe so that I have a reason to 'root' for more than just one group of people.
 
The "legacy" advantage was introduced last season.

I'm glad the first two people are gone; I couldn't stand either of them, ever.

My favorites are spread out between the two tribes, so it's hard to know who to cheer for. At this point, I just want all of them to not be voted out.

Tai is one of my favorites. People constantly underestimate him, since he's a gentle person who seems obsessed with taking care of the chickens (I wonder if Mark the Chicken from Tai's first season is still alive, or if he's become dinner by now). But Tai also wants to be "part of the group" and taken seriously by the other men. His attempts at talking strategy are somewhat clumsy, and as we saw, he has zero skills at lying (most of the time). He's pulled off some unexpectedly devious moves, though, and he's a hell of a competitor.
 
Now that I've seen the episode.

I'm enjoying it so far. I enjoyed Tony the first time around but his game doesn't work when you see it coming. It's always better when it seems like everyone who lost did so by their own mistake and not through bad luck or unfortunate reshuffles or something. Ciera lost because she threw out names too quickly (Similar way Michaela lost last season), and Tony lost because he was overtly overplaying. What I was surprised is that Tony didn't try to take advantage of the fact the votes were being split. If it were Russell, he would have pulled off the 4-3-2 splitbuster.

I like Sandra and her game but she just seems way too high profile to last much longer this game. No idea where this season is going, a lot of people seem to have strong games.

Tai is a very smart person but he also has the world's worst poker face. That's why he froze up in that conversation with Cirie.

Glad to see Tony go, his paranoia is the worst kind.

Never got why Ciera was considered a big deal, not even sure why she was invited back. See ya.

Loved the challenges, love the locale and there's a good amount of great players in this game - it's shaping up to be a great season.

Please tell me they're not going to kill a goat next week...

I hope they do! Not enough of that in the show, that's real survivor type stuff.

Russell leaked major spoilers for the seasons he was on, and then threatened to attack Phillip the Special Agent during the live reunion show where his nephew Brandon was disinvited after his violent outburst during the season. Then the other degenerate brother Willie got booted from Big Brother for fighting. Classy family.
 
Anyone else roll their eyes at the moralizing about the goat? Sandra is bad person because she wants to slaughter a goat?

Any one of them who has no problem eating beef and chicken at home, knowing those animals are sometimes kept in horrible living conditions and slaughtered a lot more painfully than Sandra would have slaughtered the goat, but thinks it's evil to kill an animal because you can see its face is a sanctimonious hypocrite.
 
It's the fact that she didn't give a damn about making the baby goat (a kid) an orphan. She just wanted to stuff her face.

If they had no chickens or other food (don't they have fishing gear?), then it's time to consider an alternative. I guess it didn't occur to any of them that if they caught the nanny goat, they'd have a source of fresh milk.

Maybe the others should sleep lightly. After all, some societies throughout history have considered cannibalism to be not only acceptable but morally proper.

JT: "Perfect! I'll have a double cheeseburger with fries."

Anyone who is not either a vegetarian or who does an extensive background check on every animal they eat to make sure they all lived full productive lives and have no dependents is *no* better than Sandra. The only difference is Sandra has seen its face. That doesn't make her more cruel, it makes her more honest.

Most of your cheeseburgers were separated from their mothers minutes after birth.

Goat is on my personal list of Things I Will Not Eat. And don't come back with "you would if you were hungry enough." I owe my life to a couple of nanny goats, since I wasn't able to tolerate cow's milk when I was little. I was too young to remember the goats, but I have a picture of my grandfather with them.

The cruelty people are talking about here is slaughtering the nanny goat and leaving the kid to fend for itself. It's not old enough to do that.
 
Why is it okay to eat tortured cow, chicken and pig but not goat?

And do you morally judge the well over half the world that doesn't apply sentiment to goats?

Your last hamburger wasn't old enough to fend for itself when it was shoved into a cage and given hormones. It's okay to orphan cows but not goats?

I've got my personal list of edibles and non edibles too, but the list is based on my emotions, and my emotions don't give me the right to judge people whose list is different from mine. I would never eat dog but the billions of people in countries where it is normal are not evil.

Are the calves let loose in the wild to fend for themselves? No.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this issue. I'm not as upset about people eating goats as I am about people eating dogs and cats.

I'm reminded of something I read many years ago when a North American family sponsored a family of refugees from somewhere in Asia (don't remember where), and when they got the family settled in their new home, one of the things they gave them was a puppy. The family thanked them, and the sponsors noted they seemed a bit confused about the dog food and leash. The next time they visited, they discovered that the family had butchered and eaten the puppy.
 
Well, DAMMITALL!

I'm really not pleased with how this episode turned out.
