Supernatural, season 11 *SPOILERS!*

^ I saw that as Dean, the big brother, trying to be realistic in reaction to Sam, the little brother, being unrealistically hopeful. I didn't see it as him not believing it COULD happen, but that it was very unlikely that God, or someone, was helping them.

Yeah, I think that was Dean's cynicism shining through. He dismisses Godly intervention because, as he said, they always have to solve these things on their own.

Also, he's very reluctant right now to believe in the credibility of any vision, given what his own vision of the Darkness told him about being connected.

Despite them knowing what they know, seeing what they've seen, they both know they must maintain a level of scientific skepticism concerning unproven hypothesis.

Dean was just reminding Sam not to get his undies in a bunch over it until they get more information/evidence to support it really meaning something.

I absolutely loved the Impala episode! What a refreshing change of pace with great naturalistic dialogue between Sam and Dean. The scene with Dad/God was really deep and touching. I'm absolutely convinced that God speaking to Sam.

Just when I think this show is absolutely tapped out and they're just recycling the same tropes over and over, they pull out something truly original!

Ha! That was a great episode. Being in the car made it rather claustrophobic at times (low ceilings and broad windows will do that), but they pulled it off. Nice that Sam finally lost his virginity.

Driving around with side window covered with blood? Not a problem, apparently.

If you recall what happened at the end of that episode, then you know what my theory is and who is sending those visions.

I'm pretty sure it's
Lucifer
.

I wonder if they'll get back the original actor, or just keep it as Young John. The only really disappointing thing was that he said nothing of apparent interest or use. The darkness is coming and only you guys can stop it? God helps those who help themselves? We knew this already.

A monster even the other monsters are afraid of is interesting, though at this point it's not a new idea. I suppose a Big Bad who can actually unmake reality puts the stakes up a couple of notches though. But what exactly were these were-pires planning on fighting? Is the infection going to re-emerge?

If they can keep things near this level of quality, and not go back to spinning their wheels like last year, there's still a chance this show could go out on a high.

Well, tonight's show certainly was...interesting. I'll admit that I went in expecting something like one of those old "Scooby Doo" stories, but there was a terrific twist to it. It managed to walk the line fairly well between being a MotW and a mythology episode. Probably not one that'll be high on the re-watch list...but it still outranks the season premiere.

Looking forward to next week's show and the return of Metatron. The summary that's out makes this one sound like it could be a great episode.

One thing they are starting to do more than I'd like to talk about the Darkness without showing us what's so scary about it. I'm hoping that's not going to take us down the same road they took with the Mark of Cain, where for all the worrying they did, except on two occasions it didn't seem to be having any visible effects.

Show us why we should be afraid of Amara...don't just keep repeating "the Darkness is coming" and expect it to resonate.

Yup, the past two episodes have been good monster of the week stories. People reacting differently to soul removal was a nice thing to explore.

But Amara is extremely disappointing. If it took the entire angelic heirarchy, God and the Horsemen to take this thing out then I would expect her powers to be far greater than we see here.

In the Dresden Files, even Ivy can blow away a fallen angel with a flick of her wrist and bring other creatures to their knees without blinking with a fraction of the power this thing is meant to possess.

Amara is meant to be the personification of all evil and darkness and she can't even eat people from a distance?

Oh and in before the new super ancient blade that is the only thing that can kill her nonsense. We've had that about 3-4 times now already.

Samuel Colt's cousin Billy Maglite created something that can stop The Darkness.

I kinda liked this episode and kinda didn't. I like the different reactions people had to Amara and having their soul taken; that was interesting. But I'm still waiting for the "holy CRAP, this is biggest, scariest thing EVAH" moment. I'm assuming she's not that powerful yet because she's still in the kid-stage. I'm hoping that, as she matures, she will get a great deal more impressive in the Big Bad department.

Some parts of tonight's episode were downright creepy--like the babysitter-gone-pyscho. I think they should've shown this one before Halloween; it was much scarier than last week's (even though that was a much better written episode).

The Darkness was a whole lot more powerful before becoming a baby.

It'll take her 20 episodes reach full power, and then she'll be able to push Sam and Dean against walls and tie them up like no one else before. :D

Another psycho babysitter!

Will they explain how/why Amara got out of hell and started wandering around?

And why was everyone saying she looked 11? I'd say 14 at the very least.

Not the greatest ep but still very strong. The only really weak moment was the very end, when S&D drive off, then Amara steps out from behind a tree and looks evil.

The series feels re-energised at the moment, the boys feel purposeful, and Ackles doesn't look as tired and bored as he did the last couple of seasons. Are they returning to the more lively style of the first couple of seasons, before the heaven/hell soap opera started? Let's hope the wheels don't fall off when we have to get back to Cas, Crowley and Rowena.

And why was everyone saying she looked 11? I'd say 14 at the very least.

I believe one of the characters said she was "12, could be a little younger, could be a little older." The actress apparently doesn't list her age online, and her bio says she plays an age range of 11-14. The Joey awards nominated her in the ages 9-10 category for her role in a 2013 short film, so her real age is likely 11-12 today. Though, she is very tall for her age (5 feet, 4 inches).

^ Thanks.

I'll just add, I expected more from the strange mother and son running the B&B, but they didn't do much and disappeared fairly quickly.

If you didn't see tonight's episode...why not?!?!

This was a TOP-NOTCH episode in every way. Mythology? Check. Great story for the brothers? Check. Great story for Cas? Check. Great story for Crowley? Check. New intel on the Darkness? Check.

Me finally (sort of) getting my wish from when the Reddit spoiler from Bob Singer was posted? DOUBLE CHECK.

Too bad it looks like next week's episode is a filler MotW episode, and not a particularly good one.

^Tonight WAS a good episode. Finally, we're getting information, all the characters get some attention and we FINALLY see that the cage is actually in play.

"God had to give up and sacrifice his own kin to make all of creation possible. He had to imprison his sister, the Darkness."

And now she"s out to settle a score.

Possible story routes of the darkness:
1) Famine ate demons and souls which was similar to Amara's power though he influenced people to consume as well.
2) Maybe there's a connection between the darkness and the demon taint used by Lucifer to create demons.
3) The Alpha Vampire wanted to turn a soulless Sam into the perfect killer once, maybe they could show Amara meet him and do this for him.
